It was the first work that I listened from Trancy Chapman and from the start I was captivated by his unique voice and beatiful guitar harmonics. The song "Fast Car" was a highlight, definitely my favorite on a first listen and got me coming back to it. The freedom, ressentment towards the system and love themes adressed in the lyrics gives the album a certain agression, all while sounding warm and envolving. Although still sounding great, some songs weren't so memorable I probably won't listen them again. Overall, a very passionate project and pleasing to listen.
I already new Baba O'Riley and, after listening to the whole album, it's still probably the only song I'm coming back to. Bargain is good too, but not as great, and some songs have really nice moments, but even after a good amount of listens, I can't even say wich song is wich. From a technical point, it's clear all the band members are very talented and it's clear where the success came from, but personally the songs weren't memorable, the lyrics and the pace didn't do it for me, and overall just did not enjoy the album.
Had already listened to this album, although not in full. Like always, the funky monkeys put out an album with many great hits, and a great musical level overall. All that said, like always too, they put out too many songs, having a lot of them sound generic amd blending in together.
Although I heard some reggaes before, I'd never heard Bob Marley. Upon hearing it, it's clear the influence in some modern music that come from it, and it come off as a very original work that cemented a genre. There are some songs that don't stand out so much, but it's overall a great album, with the lyrics expressing very strong ideals about freedom and revolution. "Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)", "Talking Blues" and "Revolution" were my favorite songs.
As I heard so much about this album I was expecting much more musically. Don't get me wrong, I get the praise and it's a very grand spectacle overall, but the sound just come as generic 80s pop rock to me. If I listened to it growing up the impact would certainly be different, but listening nowadays the sound of it was already so overused that it just don't satnd out to me. That said, the album has a lot of personality, Prince shows to be a very talented musician and there are some bangers in it, the title track being actualy amazing.
