Cheap Thrills
Big Brother & The Holding Company
I’m trying to set myself in San Francisco at that time. In that context, this must have been pure fire, especially live. That said, bluesy stuff co-opted by white folk is generally not my cup of tea, especially when Janis sings and then all the others bellow the same lyrics behind her. Ok, I’m trying again. Some impressive lead guitar, dynamic and unique lead vocals, and I like the warmth of the amplifier. Envisioning a nice goldenrod or brown amp pumping this out. Ugh. So many hippies surround me in this concert in my mind. They’re shifty, and they smell. Gotta go…

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kanye West
Hard to rate in a vacuum. Some lyrics sound hollow after he sidled up to Trump. Background musical arrangements vary from tinny guitars to warm cello. Interesting at times… Bragging about drinking and driving as well as domestic violence. This is decidedly less interesting and same old shit… So Appalled?! Hahahaha!! This album hasn’t aged well…

That’s just perfect blues music. Guitar is perfect. Harmonica adds a lot. Couldn’t listen closely to lyrics as I was working while listening, but loved the energy of the whole album.

Really strong album… as always, the co-opting of the blues by white guys is a trigger for me, but they do do it well… Wild Horses is just so good. Feeling nostalgic for the past just listening to it…

Audible sigh… Hard to give a constructive review. This is just not my jam. Maybe what yuppies listened to at the time?

Some impressive guitars, interesting drums, and really, really inane vocals. Pretty fun to listen to for a while, and then it starts to wear on you…

So groundbreaking at the time. Some repetitive themes, but the guitar just rocks…

Siouxsie And The Banshees
Rounding up to 5 stars out of fear that this is the only Siouxsie album on this list. Production is a bit tinny, and her voice isn’t featured as much as later albums. However, Switch is a sign of things to come. Hope Juju is amongst these albums, when she is at the peak of her powers.
