Great songs. Close to At The Drive-In
Classic Californian skate pop punk. A bit too repetitive and too similar. Forms of the song pretty simple. I hear an influence of country and folk music in the second voice and singing melody
The track Fame stands out from the rest of the compositions. Very "white" funk, showing the music's progressive direction towards 1980s pop.
The kind of record that bridges the gap between the 1980s and 1990s. I'd never heard it before, and it's a great discovery. “Human Cannonball” is clearly 80s punk, while “U.S.S.A.” hints at the beginnings of Rammstein and Slipknot, to name but the best-known.
Good post-punk and cold wave punk music.
Masterpiece from the 80's.
Classic country but good
All tracks are hits !
Not the best of Smith's album. A bit too tame for me
We heard it everywhere when the record came out, but the purpose of this site is to listen carefully to each record. And this one is worse now than it was then. Actually is a two songs record : Around the World-like and Californication-like. I really like some records of RHCP but this one has not got the mojo and inspiration. Poor melodies, no intention in singing, incoherent grooves. One Hot Minute and By the way are way better. The song "Right On Time" is a good example of the worst thing that this band can produce... and they will produce more of it after this record. Sadly.
Not a big fan of pure classic Bosa Nova music. A bit too lush for me. The constant voice's reverb is a weird mixing choice even it works. Orchestra writing is great with good ideas. I'm not sure that I will listen this record again, not bad but there is so many better things like Nascimento.
Good tracks. Iconic. Some are less charismatic but the record is great.
Great songs. Close to At The Drive-In
First three tracks were great. Good production, very good mix, some interesting compositional ideas, always simple but really efficient. After the songs are uninspired, always the same tricks : weird fun effect sound alone, bands kicks in, vocal in low range, chorus with a modulation and higher range vocal, repeat until fade out. Listening nowadays is a good flashback to the beginning of 2000's. 2,5/5
Everything is great : sound, imagery, energy, voice, composition, etc. Maybe I'm not objective with this one.
