I’m sorry for being a sucker for edgy concept albums
see 4/5 is 80% and this album is definitely better than that but if I compare it to jimi hendrix’s are you experienced (which I’m sure will come on this list some time) I can’t rate it 5/5……I’m sorry…..definitely mr hendrix’s most cohesive album though!! very groovy, very fun. HOWEVER the first time I heard this album was through my dad’s floor standing speakers which he got when he was in uni in the 90’s and that’s probably the best way to hear this album (besides at a live venue obviously) ‘cause today I heard it through cheap wired earphones while washing dishes and it just didn’t hit the same…..these riffs were meant to be played live!!! loud and surrounding you from all sides. I think that’s the only reason I’m able to rank this album lower than are you experienced/electric ladyland…..those albums survive being earphonified better.
fave songs from it: spanish castle magic, bold as love, castles made of sand
it’s not my Favorite favorite but people usually rank you got me floatin’ as one of the weaker songs in the album so I gotta say it has some of my favorite riffs from the entire album. undeserved low ranking.
this is one of my all time favorite albums so my review is going to be biased. I don’t think it’s a perfect album but it’s definitely more than a 4 and so far in this generator thingy, it’s my favorite So…..
my only slightly controversial opinion relating to this album is that the number of the beast (the song) is in the bottom 3 of the album for me. I just can’t get behind it like I can for the rest of the album.
but MAN…..they really have like 4 of the greatest metal songs ever in a 8-9 (depending if you’re counting total eclipse) song long album like that’s so fucking insane…..
the weakest songs are in the middle but then they throw in total eclipse and hallowed be thy name after and it’s like Woah………best recorded (metal) music ever?
music that made me non binary because I feel like a shapeless formless energy vortex while I’m listening to this instead of a human
it’s a 2 actually but to be very fair I had the worst headache in the world while listening to this and when I heard some of it today again it sounded infinitely better so I gave it 3 stars. still if you asked me to make an albums you must listen to before you die list this wouldn’t be on it?? like you’re not really missing anything. don’t know much about mr miles but the arctic monkeys definitely have better songs than what was offered here. I liked The Meeting Place I suppose.
don’t you just hate it when critics are right?
when an album has songs this long, especially if they’re just instrumentals, I assume I can just play them in the background while I do things but I couldn’t with this album. Insane trumpets in each song. I need to rehear most of these songs to really enjoy them and I didn’t have time over the weekend to do so. but it’s fucking crazy this was made in 1970.
boo 🍅🍅🍅 I was bored and unimpressed. lyrics made me think mr. lemmy’s personality might just be worse than his voice.
very fun. 3.5 stars. so many songs sample this album and I had no idea. sometimes the vocals came off as annoying though, I’m sorry
I’m a weak, weak man; I am my father’s son.
have to say the album gets better for me as we go down the tracklist thought so gimme shelter is not my peak.
fun fun FUN!!!!!!! bts should totally plagiarize this album. 3J need a no sleep till brooklyn or rhymin & stealin type of song. speaking of rhymin & stealin, now that’s how you open an album!
it’s okay, I don’t know what else to say. I need to revisit it and actually read the lyrics. I think my favorites were sickman and junkhead but if I’m being honest, all the songs started bleeding into each other around the 15 minute mark
so fucking good, why haven’t I heard this before? such fun lyrics. every point I thought “oh this song isn’t for me” the most insane 20 seconds in music history would immediately come up. high 4.
fave songs: concrete jungle, little bitch
love the lyrics, love the scifi lore concept, love the riffs……have never been able to enjoy mr ozzy’s vocals. sorry :/ love how fairy-like planet caravan sounds. didn’t expect that from black sabbath tbh
I know there’s something wrong with me because hearing this album made me extremely anxious. sorry mr. nick drake, I know it’s objectively very pretty music
compared to other albums here it’s 5 stars but compared to the rest of MJ’s discography it’s 4 stars sorry 🤷 we need to bring back male singers being this whiny and moaning/gasping throughout their songs…
