Classic punk rock album 👍 Was my shit when I was 14 but not something I would go for now. An album choqued full of nostalgia for me, relistening to it I know exactly where I was when I first listened to these songs. Listening to it now, I think up until track 5 the album is pretty solid then it kind of falls off.
Faves: Give Me Novocaine, Jesus of Suburbia, American Idiot
this is gonna be long and rambly bc i typed this up in a fervor at 2am. also this was my first time listening to jimi hendrix. will be checking out more albums :)
theres minimal lyrical analysis/overall song content review bc my wannabe music producer brain turned on and only zeroed in on every production technique and sonic element on this album.
also bc i know nothing abt how music production works w/o digital shit so the fact they used analogue and tape to make this is crazy to me
u can really hear the beginnings of a lot of guitar techniques + recording techniques that would change how guitar arrangements were recorded.
origin of a certain sound that many modern plugins and vst in music production try to replicate
shoutout to the mixing engineer, the master and whoever did the arrangements for this album bc its fucking crazy. Shout Out to:
Chas Chandler, Eddie Kramer, George Chkiantz 🫡🫡🫡
if 6 was 9 gave me asmr head tingles.
this is an album u can listen for 1000 hrs and find something new to analyze from harmony arrangement recording etc. i rated green day too high srry it shouldve been a 3/5 this is like a 6/5 for me rlly liked it.
Faves: up from the skies, castles made of sand, spanish castle magic, one rainy wish, bold as love
not the usual style of metal i go for (i like more industrial stuff) also despite liking some metal bands ive never listened to iron maiden.
this man has a crazy vibrato and a crazy falsetto
rlly liked the vocals on run to the hills. group vocal is always cool. the heavy vibrato gives his performance on this song gives it almost an opera like feel. very fun 👍
gonna be honest did not have time to finish the album i had like 2 songs left. 3/5
faves: 22 acacia avenue, run to the hills,
get ready for a beefy but empty review boys. none of this is of substance. (my review not the music)
rlly like this genre of rock with this heavy incorporation of orchestral instruments. gives the music a bigger more cinematic sound. i love strings so much we should make every music genre and every song add a string section. this album makes sure to utilize every different sound they can get from the string section and i sooo appreciate it. we need to play instruments wrong more.
Faves: separate and ever deadly,
only the truth - the mild spanish flair is muah we love the subtle cowboy vibes. the detuned bowing at the end to make it sound like a scary horde of bees is chasing you paired with cackling is very fun.
tracks i have commentary on but arent necessarily faves:
black plant:
brain: theres not that much going on musically in this song maybe we should finally pay attention to the lyrics
me: alright.
and then its just kind of. generic lyrics. theyre fine. alright back to paying attention to the strings theyre interesting again. rlly enjoyed the last minute.
the time has come again: will be learning this riff on the guitar. a fun ballad moment. not my fave.
album overall rating: 4/5 fun music i enjoyed it will be maybe checking out more. only the truth will be going into the regular rotation.
gonna start adding a rating/mention abt if im ever gonna listen to these songs/artists ever again
green day: for certain songs i have attachment to, yes. dont think im gonna seek it out to listen to regularly.
jimi hendrix: 100%
iron maiden: not the songs specifically in that album, some came up automatically that i did like. but not gonna seek out more iron maiden on my own probably.
the last shadow puppets: i think im gonna save the songs i like from this album. not gonna purposefully seek others out but if they come up sure. aviation came up on youtube music. will be saving 👍
i normally have so much to say abt each album but i am tire and eepy and its 3am and i need to shower and sleep
i like flute in this album iz good and cool 👍
faves: 21st century schizoid man, i talk to the wind duo version (the cool flute version), the court of the crimson king
would i listen to more king crimson: yes but i would not purposefully seek it out. and i have listened to this album before.
Maybe its bc I was listening to this album while writing a midterm but by abt halfway through the album I got annoyed. Its fine. just generic dad rock. Sorry if this is supposed to be a good album.
i love music. i love ... instrumental arrangements...
its always so charming listening to stuff recorded in this era idk it just has a charm that digital recording can never emulate.
this style of blues isnt for me but i can greatly appreciate the album for what it is and the artistry + musicality. it also just feels like you can tell they were having fun in the studio the entire time they were making this album :)
Faves: Gimme Shelter, You Cant always get what you want, Country Honk is very fun., Monkey Man, Midnight Rambler
Would I seek this out: Actually yeah. the ones i like from this album are in the rotation :)
i was so excited when i first heard the 2 songs on the album. i was jamming and having a great time. and then i listened to the rest of the album. im sure its good music for the people its for, but for me if you are doing this kind of genre of rock, it has to be high energy. if you drawl on i feel like im being musically held hostage sometimes. especially if your guitars arent doing anything particularly interesting either and are just there for texture. but there are some fun guitar parts. im sure these songs are much better for live performance than to be listened to by an anxiety riddled 20 yr old who has something to do and is mildly annoyed that the music is going nowhere. theres a mild redemption at track 8, and the subsequent songs that follow.
Im sure anyone reading these reviews finds my opinions abhorrent.
Faves: Them Bones, Down That River, <- two songs that are solidly going into the rotation, Dirt (this is much lower than the other two) Hate to Feel (a song w a nice use of some classic metal/rock music tropes) Angry Chair
would i seek out alice in chains: if there are more songs like the first two on this album sure.
this might also be my emotions. anyways this is like. 3.4
This entire album is like one of those "500 riffs you should know on the guitar" youtube videos condensed.
Nothing in particular stood out to me but nothing turned me off of this album either. This is an album for guitar players and guitar lovers.
Faves: War Pigs/Electric Funeral, Iron Man, Electric Funeral
bryter later nick drake
this album is so lush and beautiful. i love instrumence... every time i need to feel happy or refreshed this is now my go to. it just instantly lifts your mood 🙂
faves: introduction, hazey jane ii, hazey jane i, sunday
only reviewing this bc ive listened to it before. just some good hip hop. a gold standard for this exact style of hip hop eveyrthing from production, flow and lyricism. also smth nostalgic about this form of sampling idk brings me back to watching ableton/fruity loops tutorials in high school learning how to make beats for the first time.
also love it when rappers just make a track where its just people yelling and talking to each other. last also sorry for making everything abt bts but every time i listen to nas i can rlly tell how much he has influenced rm.
faves: ny state of mind, halftime (my style switches like a faggot but not a bisexual is crazy, this is not why i like the song), the world is yours, lifes a bitch
had this playing at work and didnt realize the album ended. i think there are some good songs i think. so sorry george harrison i think youre a good musician.
kendrick lamar has always been a storyteller and this album is one of the prime examples of how he uses this ability of narrative in his lyrics. i feel like he approaches music making the way a director does. his albums all have a narrative and a cinematic feel to them.
faves: good kid, compton, bitch dont kill my vibe, backseet freestyle,
i think theres better punk albums out there. i think on a surface level if you only interacted with a few of their songs you could read their lyircs and think "wow theyre maybe saying something here!" but any further analysis/introspection into what theyre actually saying and their other public stunts and performances you realize this is a band full of dudes who are anti-establishment just to be anti-establishment. there are solid tracks on this album! bodies, god save the queen, holidays in the sun, and emi are lyrically probably the strongest and makes this ranking not as low as it could despite me really not wanting to rate things as 3 star bc i feel like thats the same as answering "sometimes" on a behavioural survey.
faves: bodies, god save the queen, holidays in the sun.
