Solid album. Classic punk bangers like Basket Case and When I come Around. Guitar can get monotonous at times and vocals can be hard to make out on some songs. Drums and comedic-esque lyrics drive the album. Music videos were unique and helped popularize the album during the peak of MTV.
Music was carried. Kind of like your own a long train track, the tempo stays steady but the view is always a little different sometimes vastly different. However jazz just really isn’t for me despite this being a classic. Could not pay attention to notice that a song had changed. Could not find melodies either.
Holy Fuck. Thiiiis is what I wasn’t allowed to listen to growing up and I have been deprived. Started out so strong that I’m only on the first two songs and writing my notes. This is what I want sex to feel like lmfaooo. There are parts of different songs that I have recognized being used/similar to other parts of some of my favorite songs. Vocals, instrumentals, this could be a 5 based on now the first 3 songs alone. You know I’m enjoying an album when I’m whipping my hair back and forth, attempting the vocals, and making the stank face. 5 stars.
Verbiose and artistic spoken poetry like rap layered on top of sliding jazz sounds. A beautiful album but unfortunately I just don’t like jazz that much and I don’t want to analyze too deeply. 4 stars for artistic uniqueness and lyricism but minus one for entertainment value.
I think it’s cute that they made this album as a tribute to their old band mate who left due to mental health issues. I love the song shine on you crazy diamond. However the songs fade into background music as there’s nothing really keeping your attention. Would listen for a long drive or falling asleep.
It’s Johnny Cash singing about cocaine and prison time despite not spending any time doing time. Concept is cool for its time but not sure it holds up. Album did grow on me after a few listens specifically the songs “A boy named Sue” and “Darlin Companion”. I do think it is META to perform songs that’s like Fuck San Quentin Prison in San Quentin prison. In truth this is 2.5 for me but since I can’t do half ratings I’ll round up.
It’s a classic bop. Simple, energetic, raw, fun energy. Can be repetitive at times but with the context of being early hip-hop and this bringing hip-hop main stream I’ll overlook musical simplicity.
I felt like I was being punked. I can appreciate this was the start to Indie Rock but nothing was memorable and I just don’t like this album.
Good music to be depressed to. Would cry to it again.
I thought I could be open to punk. But I just couldn’t listen to this seriously. I can appreciate the genre but I really don’t vibe with it.
I mean it’s a classic, but uhh the misogynistic lyrics make me do a little head turn. The humor is there though.
Listen, this album brought me back. With beautiful songs like Come Away With Me and Don’t Know Why it’s got hits. However as a whole the smooth lullaby jazz sound can get boring and put you to sleep. Which can be great if that’s what you’re going for.
Meh. Generic 80s
Generic rock. Nothing stands out
I guess I like Neil Young. Cinnamon Girl is a rollercoaster starter but overall enjoyable listen.
Classic. 1 star taken away for stealing from black people.
It’s chill. Gives me Pink Floyd meets beach boys. Wish the songs would’ve switched it up a lil more.
Chill, loved the outerspace vibes. A bit Bowie sounding but nothing making me rock out.
Instrumentals go hard but vocals cut away from it.
Love the instrumentals and call and response vocals. A bit repetitive and I wish I knew what the lyrics meant but overall a powerful album made as a work of rebellion and a call for freedom against an oppressive government. +1 star for Songhoy Blues bravery.
I mean Rolling Stones is classic, but not for me. It was great cult of lamb background music but overall the tax evading album was mid.
This type of punk is fun and lively. Instrumentals are upbeat and simple. I enjoyed it despite putting it on as morning background music for cooking. +1 for leftist ideologies and also for actually being a punk album I enjoy. I guess I don’t hate punk.
I enjoyed this live album. I typically have to be in the mood to listen to this type of soul music but even out of the mood I enjoyed this. I especially liked the “who is this? The operator. Well I don’t want to speak to the operator, I want my babyyyy” line. I also enjoyed the OC line of “I don’t have leukemia line” and uhh plus one star for making me “grab my hankie “
I’m not a fan of experimental music but somehow I didn’t hate this despite the screaming intro. Decent background music and lots of potential to be hits but no memorable melody. I would sample this album for sure.
I squealed when I saw this come up. I absolutely love Buena Vista Social Club. The feeling of it, how it makes you wanna dance, the rich culture it represents, the undertone of melancholy. If there is a top 10 album list for me this is in there.
I like a lot of U2 songs. Unfortunately and surprisingly, I did not enjoy this album.
Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this. Great music to have sex too. Very tantric.
It was okay. Didn’t love it or hate it. Realizing that the 60s sound of some songs that I love are just a product of its time.
Somehow I got bored of this. Just like multiple albums before it but nothing to make it stand out. A product of its time not a product to define it.
I enjoyed this a lot more than the 60s albums that have been on this list back to back. It’s fun! Energetic. It’s got bops. It’s really 3.5 stars but since I can’t do half stars and because very few women are on this list from what I’ve seen so far - 4 stars.
