This album is definitely one of the more out there Radiohead albums and there is a LOT to love about it, Everything In Its Right Place is so cool with the descending synth intro and How To Disappear Completely wrecks me, but man, Treefingers is tough to get through. If it were shorter, sure but a little drony... Idioteque is fun as heck though.
An album filled with some classics and some songs that didn't really hit for me. Obviously influential but not my taste in regards to classic music.
Missing Pieces: What a fun little doodly riff. Makes me nostalgic for 2012/2013. Jack ain't the best singer though haha.
Sixteen Saltines: it got that riffs.
Freedom at 21: The drums are so fucking cool and the little riff. Chef's Kiss.
Love Interruption: Now this is a duet, love this shit.
Blunderbuss: Now this is a little more folksy. I don't LOVE it but it's good. Nice little piano.
Hypocritical Kiss: The ending is lovely with the piano. Bluesy af.
Weep Themselves To Sleep: The ascending piano part is so cool. The piano in this song is so good. Jack's not perfect singing is kind of charming and fits. That little guitar solo is neat as heck.
I'm Shakin': This sounds like a children's song all blues up haha. Love it.
Trash Tongue Talker: BLUESSSSS, more awesome piano, the reverbed voice fits well.
Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy: I don't love this track. Just doesn't hit for me for some reason. Eh.
I Guess I Should Go To Sleep: This one doesn't really hit me either. More of a country feel. The piano breaks are cool though.
On And On And On: I love the bass in this one. Just so groovy.
Take Me With You When You Go: This definitely gives me Dave Brubeck vibes, but I'm here for it. Oh fuck, riff time! This shit is so good. Great closer.
What a fun late 00's indie album. Heads Will Roll is the obvious hit but man, this was just a nostalgic listen for the time. Yeah Yeah Yeahs should have definitely had a couple of hits from this album. Some songs didn't quite hit the spot for me though.
All I Want: What an interesting voice. It's a good song, it's not really my style but I definitely appreciate it.
My Old Man: Uses more falsetto here. Warmest chord is a cool line. Definitely feel like this is an album where the lyrics are the standout. I'm not a lyrics guy so this may be a struggle.
Little Green: This is a really sombre feel. Is this an astrological girlie song?
Carey: A little more upbeat, this is a fun track.
Blue: Back to sombre piano. One of the better ones I have enjoyed so far.
California: This is kind of a fun tune again. Probably my favourite so far.
This Flight Tonight: I feel like I recognize this song. It's good. I feel like I like the guitar-centric songs more than the piano-centric ones. May be a new favourite.
River: From the first piano chords, I was like CHRISTMAS. Yeah, it's okay. The lyrics feel personal but the singer-songwriter music feels a little generic considering the age of the album. Alright, this song is probably my least favourite.
A Case Of You: This one isn't doing it for me either.
The Last Time I Saw Richard: Ahh, just what I needed, a piano ballad. I get why this is regarded as an acclaimed album, unfortunately, it just doesn't hit me in that sense. I've always been really picky with singer-songwriter music.
Spellbound: From the first notes, I knew this would be good. Post-punk vibes - you can definitely see where The Smiths got their influence. Siouxsie's vocals are great here - the chorus is catchy despite the dark undertones, but the drums give such life to the track.
Into The Light: The guitar phasers - classic 80's. I don't care what anyone says, it's cool af. This is such a cool guitar riff behind the drums. Is this about aliens? I hope this is about aliens because hell yeah.
Arabian Knights: Love the gothic feel of this song, the drums and bass sound straight out of a Joy Division album. The guitar work and chorus sound like a Cure track. Good shit.
Halloween: Man, this is definitely a guitar-centric album but it sounds so good. I love how every track has that dark, gothic vibes but sounds so bright and vibey. Her voice is perfect for this.
Monitor: That first riff, god daaaaamn. Have I said her voice is perfect for this, with the effects, chefs kiss. This is some Orwellian lyrical shit though. OH AND THE RIFF RETURNS, YES. Nice little fake out. The snare pops picking up now. You know this song goes hard live.
Night Shift: Ooooooh, first slow track? The guitars just make this sound so cool. The vibes really fit the stabby, rip, stab, stab lyrics. Dark, eerie, mysterious. Maybe not the first track I'd show someone to introduce them, but it's a nice break from the faster pace tunes. The feedback ending too is rad.
Sin In My Heart: The drums fading in with the picked chord progression, niiice. This intro is such a cool way to pick up the pace. The drums are the stand out on this track for me. This track feels short but that's because they spend the first minute bringing in the tune but yeah, it slaps. The little guitar noodly between the two verses is fun as heck. THE DRUMS in the ending, god daaamn.
Head Cut: The screeeeeam. Yes Siouxsie, yes. Do I want to dance? This is kind of dance-y right? And the phasey guitars just really add to the vibe and the little riffs intertwined. The riffs between vocal takes sounds like a Mario boss battle. But the SCREAMS. One of the better vocal standout tracks too.
Voodoo Dolly: Slower tune again, very gothic. The drums and the riffs picking up, ooookaaaay, I see you. This is a vibe with the feedback and the reverby vocals. The build up of this track really fits a closer vibe. We speedin' up baaaaby. A wall of noise with the vocals - holy shit, yeah, this is my jam. This is the longest track on the album but it doesn't feel long with the way they use the song to it's fullest. There are lyrics obviously but the way the vocals work with the tremolo picking of the guitars and the drums are just perfect. And the comedown with the slower drumming and the less frantic guitar work. Wow. I'm surprised I never listened to this and I should have sooner.
Some classic tunes but a little dated. Just wanted to listen to Nas through most of it.
Some classics on here too but yeah, I don’t really feel the need to come back to most of these.
Juanita:Kiteness:To Dream Of Love - This feels like it's perfect for a long Blade Fight Scene... or MDMA.
Banstyle/Sappys Curry - Like the little drum and bass intro and the ending is really cool. Both songs above don't need to be this long though.
Confusion The Waitress - Eh... didn't love it.
Rowla - This is energetic as heck, repetitive though.
Pearl's Girl - I do like how all of the tracks separate themselves from each other. You aren't getting the same electronic or IDM sound. This one isn't bad either.
Air Towel - This is kind of nostalgic in a way because it reminds me of Electric Circus being on MuchMusic in the 90's as a kid and man, it's not my thing but to whoever likes this style of electronic music, this must be their shit. The layering is fucking cool, I will say.
Blueski - A nice sombre moment to breathe, I actually liked this.
Stagger - This feels like a completely different band, wth hahaha. It's good though. Especially when 4:20 hits. hehehe.
Block Rockin Beats
Slacker rock babyyy
I like a lot of Queen but yeah, didn't do it for me.
It's definitely not my thing.
Liked this! A bit long for the type of music for me though.
Math rock, progressive pop, indie folk? What a varied album! I really enjoyed this and the weird little offbeat additions. Cool time signature shifts, key changes, tempo changes, this is GOOD.
