Some absolutely stand out tracks, including Ramble On, one of my favourite Led Zeppelin tracks. Some tracks can drag and become forgetful however.
Surprisingly 50's vibes rather than what I thought it would be
Far more interlude material than I thought there would be! It does drag, but not without good reason. It really does try to pace itself to tell a STORY. So I can appreciate just the scale of what it's going for, but not something I'll readily go back to.
And Pinball Wizard is very very good. I forgot just how good especially the bass playing. Fiddle About, still horribly uncomfortable. Definetely an album of odd mixes.
Superb album that I've loved and cherished for a long time. Part of me wishes there were more Nilsson on the 1001, but Schmilsson really is the cleanest and best of the bunch in terms of consistent quality.
Down is a fantastic track
The album definitely deserves the applause it often receives. Drags a little at the end but for an album that comes up to the hour mark in running time, it feels like you breeze through it.
Paranoid Android is a masterpiece and I was surprised at how enjoyable Electioneering was with its REM tinged jangly rock.
In keeping with my music tastes, if a little cutesy! Cat's limited voice can begin to grate, but he makes up for it with pleasant if a little forgetful for me, melodies.
Into White was surprisingly nice, and Wild World's little scale run is still great fun! Long Boats though gets real annoying to me and Father and Son is little overplayed....
A nice change from the older albums over the last while! I've never got myself to listen modern RnB albums, so this was a great chance to properly listen to a whole great modern album.
I loved the framing of the album, with the short radio/tv interlude. It was like each track is a new show, a different channel, but really effectively done. Highlights included Sweet Life, Super Rich Kids, Lost and Bad Religion
Not my thing, yet it's fun to listen out for the elements that obviously influenced the future of Hip-Hop. Also the panning, they loved panning vocals constantly, kind decide whether it's annoying or fun.
But it makes more sense considering the more dance atmosphere - I just imagine it at an 80's disco, makes it much more fun. Who You Funkin' With is probably my 'favourite' with Go Go Pop having the best beat, at least to me.
Very much of its time, not my thing, but y'know, interesting.
I'm starting to learn how empty and dry some these 80's synth albums sound - I guess that's the reality of using analog electronic instruments.
Darkly comic concept album, gotta love satire - capitalist systems, warmongering and yuppies galore. I don't think it's something to return to as it can get a little annoying with the constant nature of 80's synth drums, but it was a really interesting listen. It honestly started to lean on horror music elements, especially in the latter half of the album.
Really happy to have given this a go. A creepy, satirical synth album!
God, that guitar riff on the first track! Just forces you to groove with it. Brilliant! Just some RnB goodness, gloriously made. Songs can drag a little at the end, but that's a small quibble - at some point being able to have the beat continue on for a while would be exactly what I'd want.
Favourite tracks: Penitentiary Philosophy(great riff), Cleva (great chorus), A.D. 2000 (great drums), Green Eyes (some great lyrics, if a little long)
Like a real melodramatic apocalypse, but with fairly static beats. Very obviously influenced by Kraftwrek. Don’t think I’d end up listening to it fully again, but perhaps a few tracks. Nothing is definitely the most creative track to me.
Fav tracks: The Things You Said, Strangelove, To Have and To Hold, Nothing
Perhaps I’m in the minority who enjoys the more typical poppy tracks here, but overall a very enjoyable classic 60’s rock album
Fav Songs: Have You Seen Her Face, The Girl with No Name, So You Wanna Be Rock’n’Roll Star
Sad. So Sad. So Good. So Sad
ya like jazz?
A lot more expansive 80’s electronic pop. Got a little boring over the latter half
Fav tracks: Colours Fly and Catherine Wheel (fun bass), Promised You a Miracle, Somebody Up There Like You
Not my favourite Costello album, but still a great education in creating perfect garage pop/rock tracks. And my god are The Attractions a one-of-a-kind backing group.
Fav tracks:Uncomplicated, I Hope You're Happy Now, I Want You, Crimes of Paris, Next Time Round
NOISY ROCKING ROCK, SORTA HURTS THE EARS, BUT SORTA LOVE IT
Fav songs: On The Lash, Spike Island
Strangely more country on this than I remembered. As someone who isn't that impressed by a lot of Rolling Stones albums, I feel like I forget that their lesser known tracks are actually much better than I think. So instead of 3, I'm giving it 4 stars, although the latter half of the album did become a slow mist to me
Best tracks: Symphony for the Devil (Obviously), No Expectations, Street Fighting Man, Prodigal Son
Like a late evening of joking with your friends, chatting about life and then making up the most absurd stories you can think off. Really love it, although it's a little long for me.
Fav Tracks: Jenifa Taught Me, Ghetto Thang, Eye Know, Me, Myself and I
The slightly dated piano, europoppy vibes, not my favourite. However, the majority of the album held up completely, with only the Stevie Wonder track and Soul Free turning me off.
Fav Tracks: Freedom 90', Waiting for The Day, Heal the Pain
I research This Is Desire by Harvey for a university project so was slightly familiar with a raucous and sex themed material. It was nice to hear the gentler moody tracks. It didn't blow me away, but it wasn't bad my any means. Think I just think this 90's material is in the perfectly fine category.
Fav Tracks: A Place Called Home, Beautiful Feeling, Kamikaze, Horses in my Dreams, This Wicked Tounge
