Nope, cannot do non-stop rap, sorry. After 3 songs, went back to my Liked Songs list, first up was Margaritaville. Guess that means I'm just plain o.l.d.
A classic from the jurassic...... transports back to early teen years, when this was considered to be so HUGE!!!..... and it's now just a meager half hour of listening......
omg, yes, absolutely g.o.a.t. Mark Knopfler is a giant!!
One of new rock's giants, great song writing. Don't think he gets half as much acclaim as he deserves. Elvis Costello is very definitely 👍👍
You gotta fight! For your right! To paaaaaaaar- tay! Yeah, I good-mommed it by letting my kids holler this one out in the backseat way back when. NOT going back there. 😑
I dont "know" Nick Drake, but can easily recognize his voice and sound, he was very distinctive. This album seems almost devastatingly beautiful, haunting as well as haunted. I read up on him while listening; it's so sad that such amazing music was born from such deep turmoil. Nick Drake was so gifted, so moody.... and still so worth listening to. Thanks for including his music here.
It's somewhere between 1960's Kinks and my son's high school band, without any physical or emotional ties (for me)....... meh. Gonna head back to Ryan Adams and Killers.
Mellllllow..... so mellow, it played in the background almost unnoticed. Good chillaxing music, appropriate to afternoons spent in hammocks (or other equivalent comfy locales). Nice but not life-changing. Probably excellent as a wind-down soundtrack before bedtime.
Oh, Jimi.... how much more would music have changed if he'd stayed around? A visionary pioneer, for sure, and still an amazing listen. Thanks for bringing so much fun into our music, Jimi!
...if Kurt had stuck around, and dumped Courtney, would we have noticed?...... just askin.....
Amazing to be reminded how great Paul Simon's songwriting talent really is. Even the smallest songs are so well crafted.... what a gift. Also great to listen to him when he started to use his own voice for his songs, rather than just provide harmony. He is a legend whose every song is worth listening to, both for wonderful lyrics and for fantastic guitar skills. And then he brings in the world music ....! 👏👏👏
A good listen. Always interesting musically, interesting lyrics. Instantly recognizable unique sound, AF definitely stand apart from the 'usual' sound. I like 'em.
Ambient Electronica in its infancy... no lyrics to speak of, but they weren't the point, it was all atmosphere. Can't say I "enjoyed" listening, it was more like background music you hear in a movie. Definitely set Eno up for his ability to create an interesting sound, hence his success as a producer. For me, it was more historical than musical value.
Total 80s groove! I could hear some Bill Nelson, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen.... and a smidge of White Stripes. Great driving music! You'd be boppin in your seat and miles be flyin by! Makes you feel like a teenager..... a real life emotional teenager..... 🎶
...ya know Neil's not on spotify, right? Thankfully, he is on YouTube and still watchable, which is great because he is a classic and this is one historic album.
Great blast from the 70s!! This was absolutely 💯 one of my favorite 8tracks (yesss.....). I mean: Smoke on the Water, Space Truckin, Highway Star..... far out, man. Totally groovy driving tunage.
Rap & my brain dont mix..... sorry.
Very far background for me.... guess I need more musical value these days. I got very bored in no time. Could've been at any mall for all I could tell. Speak to me, David.... or at least sing a little.....
SoCal on the cusp of psychedelia. I remember "Laugh, Laugh" but nothing after. They were one of dozens of Sgt Pepper dress-up clones, easily eclipsed by the Byrds and Jefferson Airplane. Not hard to listen to (in my nostalgic ears) but absolutely not noteworthy. Footnote-worthy? I dunno.....
Beautiful voice, could listen forever. She has the same effortless smoothness as her stepmother, the legendary Astrud. This is the kind of music that makes the world a kinder, mellower place... I think the right word is "Blissful". You can just feel the sun shining 🌞
Still passing on rap......
Not on spotify, but it does have Rising Above Bedlam radio with Jah plus an awesome lineup of my 80s idols like Kate Bush, Talk Talk, Echo & the Bunnymen. Had to Jah on the YouTube, and mostly enjoyed it. I understand a lot of criticism from the kids, but hope they can realize that 70s & 80s were a world without internet. Cultural appropriation wasn't a thing when we weren't inundated with vlogs & tiktoks about how to be "correct" and "accepting". It was thanks to albums by artists like Jah, Peter Gabriel, Ryan Cooder et al that different ethnic music and artists were introduced into what is now the mainstream. Couldna done it without them. 👏👏👏
I know they were leaders in the British neo-folk movement in the 70s, and generally I'm a huge fan of just about anything folk-oriented, but I found this a rather bland listen. On the other hand, I still love listening to Fairport Convention, and pretty much anything sung by Sandy Denny, so maybe Linda just loses by (subconscious) comparison. Nice, just. Different time/place I might think more of it....
Oh, yeah yeah yeah! Maps was my intro to these guys, and it completely captivated me. I love Karen's simultaneous intensity and minimalism. Admittedly, a lot of it can start to bore since there isn't necessarily a huge diff from one song to the next .... until she gets into Tick and channels Lena Lovitch, lol. Okay, so I like them at their low key best on songs like Maps & No No No, and more recent Heads Will Roll, but I think they're a fun buncha kids.
