Purple Rain
PrinceHonestly, I stopped partway through. Every song sounded the same to me. And if you already don't care for Prince's style that's kind of a death knell for the album.

They really did create some complex melodies here. Many if these are familiar songs from childhood, like Nowhere Man (an old favorite I can remember singing to myself as a girl). But some I have never heard before are very enjoyable--Michelle, What Goes On, and Girl are all strong songs in the middle of the album. They really did develop their style between this album and their earlier hits. I especially love the instrumentation in Michelle.
I can tell this is a really well-made album and the lyrics are very thoughtful. I think it's just not my preference of style, so I get a little tired of it after a bit. Hence 4 rather than 5 stars.
Mom was right. Every song sounds the same. 🤷🏻♀️
Some of these songs were great, some just ok. I really liked Jammin'. I can take only about this much reggae at one time. But Bob Marley is usually a lot of fun in small doses.
Haven't finished the album yet, but it's a lot of fun. I like their rhythms and the kind of dorky way they rap, very expressive and not flat or overly "gangsta." I can hear their influence on just about every other hip hop artist I know.
Very fun. It slowed down a bit later in the album and wasn't as exciting, but still quality music.
Lovely. Relaxing and smooth, familiar but fresh.
