Not for me... One extra star for Freebird but can’t quite get past the racism.
Ambitious and progressive but without leaning too much into the excesses of that particular term. To me, something of an early model for later "math-rock" bands; American Football, Parquet Courts etc.
Moments of honesty and joy but a bit one-note for me - there is something about Beck's voice I just can't warm to!
Reminds me of being in a power trio, great nostalgic vibes and just the right amount of rough around the edges. Probably a good thing that 70% of the lyrics are fairly indistinguishable.
Lives in a weird space in 2025. Very "trainspotting" era of pop culture for me. OK?
Very happy to revisit this old classic! His lyrics are of course mental, but will never get tired of this unique, ethereal world of poetry and archaic references. Superb.
