1001 Albums Summary

I liked this. It totally sounded like the Temptations, and the production on it is really funky. Standout track for me was Cloud Nine. Marvin Gaye’s ‘Grapevine’ is preferable to me, though.

I gave this two listens. At first, I thought maybe it had not aged terribly well, and that it might be almost a parody. But the more I listened the more it felt like a really good album. Nice precursor to the film scoring Trent would go on to do.

This is a wonderful record. I only knew “Nothing Compares 2 U” and I wish I had given the whole thing more of a chance earlier. Ethereal, moody, and really political. Really relevant even today.

Totally captured that early 2000s energy.

Classic rock for sure. I’m sure fans of the band love this record, but for me all of the solos were indulgent and were almost stepping over into jam band territory.

Not for me, necessarily. I can respect that it's an important electronic record. The hits are great. I feel a certain way about sampling classic blues recordings and repackaging them this way.

I liked this a lot. Almost more like a spoken word album than other early 90s rap. Has that old school cool.

I feel like I’m supposed to enjoy this record because it’s Joni Mitchell. I really didn’t. Very same-sounding from track to track. Stream of consciousness lyrics (not in a good way). I’m not saying Alan Rickman’s character in Love Actually was right to have a wandering eye. But if Emma Thompson’s character lived Joni Mitchell I kind of get it.

Other than "In Every Dream Home a Heartache," this is pretty unlistenable for me. It's avant garde, and a good bit of it is just noise. Not for me.

This was really pleasant. Old school for sure, but it was really fun to listen to an album where there are a couple of tracks that have permeated pop culture.
