Funeral by Arcade Fire
Mar 13 2024

Funeral was an excellent example of creative experimentation combined with peak musicianship. Each song twisted and turned in ways I never expected and brought something new to the table. I wasn't sure what to expect for the next track. Being released in 2004, this was a highlight for the alt rock and indie genres. This band knows that they're doing. My favorite track is Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles). Album added to my Spotify library.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Mar 14 2024

In Rainbows brought me everything I needed. From ethereal vocals to sick bass lines to clean guitar riffs and an atmospheric synth, with moving drum beats to tie it all together. The album gave me a spacey, yet grounded feel. My favorite track is Jigsaw Falling Into Place. Album added to my Spotify library.

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Mar 18 2024

The great thing about Bob Dylan is that he tells a story through his music. My problem with this album is that each song sounded the same. Nothing really stuck out to me. My only comment is, "Yep, sounds like Bob Dylan." There wasn't anything special. Best case, I would put this album on in the background while I have a couple beers. Favorite track was Desolation Row. Did not add to my Spotify library.

Sunday At The Village Vanguard by Bill Evans Trio
Mar 19 2024

I wish I knew more about Jazz to fully appreciate this. Was an awesome vibe though. I felt like I was in the movie Taxi Driver the whole time. I also loved how it was live so you could hear some distant chatter and the clinking of cups. Favorite track was My Man’s Gone Now. Did not add to Spotify library.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Mar 20 2024

Pretty fun album! Was cleaning my bathroom to it and made the time fly. Favorite track is Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell. Did not add to Spotify library.

Solid Air by John Martyn
Mar 21 2024

I had no clue what to expect. I don't know who John Martyn or ever heard if any of these songs. Played the first song; my jaw was dropped and my brain tingled after the first few seconds. This is the definition of Karl music. The vibe that was carefully created here nails an americana-road-trip feel. I'm blown away.

LP1 by FKA twigs
Mar 22 2024

This album was pretty mid. I enjoyed listening to it, but it didn't do anything special. I was waiting for a song to bring the album home but it never came. Gave a nice lofi/R&B vibe to read to, but nothing much more than that. Favorite track was Give Up. Did not add to my Spotify library.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Mar 25 2024

Now that's jazz! Compared to the last jazz album this one is much better. There are awesome melodies mixed with sick improv. I also really dig the bass player. They were doing some tasty bass lines. This album has soul baby. Favorite track was Minawa. Added to my Spotify library.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Mar 26 2024

I really like the Smiths. I feel like when I think of the 80s I think of this band. This album was super short and sweet. All the songs are fun and move along pretty quickly. I wouldn't say it's anything revolutionary for me, but it still was great. Favorite track was Bigmouth Strike Again. Did not add to my Spotify library.

I Against I by Bad Brains
Mar 27 2024

What a sick album. The riffs were insane while and there was clear inspiration from The Big 4 of metal, who were blowing up at the time. I love hardcore music and I’m super impressed with this band. Definitely gonna check out some of their other stuff. Favorite track was Re-Ignition. Added to my Spotify library.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Mar 28 2024

Super fun album really liked it. Definitely some bangers in there. Favorite song was either Lenny or She’s so Loose. Added to my Spotify library.

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Mar 29 2024

I really hated this album. The distortion was just all I could hear. I felt like my ears were bleeding and not in a badass way. I really love the classic 80s vocals but I can find that with another band. Never gonna listen to this again. I feel worse off for it. I hate to be so negative, but this album really was not the move in ANY sense. Did not have a favorite song. Did not add to my Spotify library.

Fragile by Yes
Apr 01 2024

This album was super cool! You can see how these guys were classical trained. I liked how the classical bits were weaved in but also had some dedicated songs. I wasn’t blown away but wasn’t dissatisfied either. Solid album. Favorite song was Long Distance Runaround. Did not add to Spotify library.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Apr 02 2024

Loved this album. I love when artists are not afraid to go big! There were so many different instruments like strings and horn sections. They also had tons of vocal parts in each song. Favorite song was Casimir Pulaski Day. Added to my Spotify library.

War by U2
Apr 03 2024

Growing up my dad always talked about U2. I don't have any specific memories of him playing it, but he told me he would buy their tapes as they came out. I can't help but think how awesome it was to be living in a time where a U2 album drop was as big as Kanye dropping something new. I really only know U2's hits, but I'm glad I got to listen to this album. I learned that U2 is just a super solid 80s band. Great to listen to. Favorite track was Two Hearts Beat as One Added to my Spotify library.

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
Apr 04 2024

Super cool album. The first half of the album was super edgy teenage angst but by the end it turned into something entirely different! It got weird in the best way. Favorite song was Johnny Sunshine. Added to my Spotify library.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Apr 05 2024

Super hype album. My pops was a break dancer in Patterson so I can picture some dude walking around with a boombox blasting this stuff. I can see why they were so popular! Favorite song was You Be Illin’. Added to my Spotify library.

Ramones by Ramones
Apr 08 2024

This album makes me wish I was 19 in London with a purple Mohawk. Gave me a right thrashing. No particular favorite song. Did not add to my Spotify playlist.

1999 by Prince
Apr 09 2024

Fun album, but nothing special to me. It was nice to have in the background or for a car ride. Favorite song was delirious. Did not add to my Spotify playlist.

Survivor by Destiny's Child
Apr 10 2024

Didn’t fully finish it, but I really liked it! I never fully got into the early 2000s musics besides some of the boy bands. Now I see why everyone was so obsessed with this group. They are just phenomenal singers and the harmonies are in point. Favorite song was Bootylicious. Added to my Spotify playlist.

Dummy by Portishead
Apr 11 2024

I’ve just recently been put into Portishead. I really love music like this. Bands like Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation always hit different. Favorite song was Glory Box. Added to my Spotify playlist.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Apr 12 2024

This album was badass as hell. Makes me wanna shoot aliens with a machine gun off a motorcycle. Favorite song was Breaking the Law. Added to my Spotify library.

Play by Moby
Apr 15 2024

Really love this album. So much variety. 90s electronic music is pretty sweet because it is so musical. There seems to be a lot of effort put into it when now electronic music just feels too electronic. Favorite song was Sunday. Added to my Spotify playlist.

Arrival by ABBA
Apr 16 2024

I mean, just amazing. I never listened to ABBA besides their hits. The harmonies and melodies in this album are amazing. It's like a mini musical. I can see why they were so famous. Favorite song was Dum Dum Diddle. Added to my Spotify playlist.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Apr 17 2024

Wow wild to have this type of music in the 70s. Didn't even know there were groups like this. No particular favorite song. Added to my Spotify library.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Apr 18 2024

Didn't fully listen but it's pretty good! Can't beat a little Stevie Wonder. Favorite song was Lookin' For Another Pure Love. Did not add to my Spotify library.
