1001 Albums Summary

This would be my first time intentionally listening to Afrobeat. FK is one of those artists that I feel like Numero really likes. Initially, I'm liking it. The delicate and complicated guitar work on the title track forms this rhythmic base. Really well recorded bass and drums give this a tight sound. Then you get this sweet rock organ (that in some ways is almost cheap Casio-like in the best way) coming in. There's an almost Steve Reich like quality to the composition and the layering. Easy to get lost in the grooves in here. Also hearing some sounds that remind me of Santana's sort of mystical, tranciness. There seems to be a lot in common between Afrobeat and it's contemporary in latin rock and jazz around this same time period. I was also reminded of a couple of Grover Washington Jr. records from the same era. Really enjoyed this record!

I'm liking this. It's a solid live recording, and while I'm not a huge fan of this era of rock, I've grown to appreciate it so much more as the years have gone by. It's a tight band (with tight pants) and the live translation of their songs was great and the recording on the record is amazing. The drum solo panning and flanging on Sha-la-la!! I really enjoyed this one. 4/5 --- Rating meanings: since all of these records are master works and well regarded, my scale is going to adapt to how well I connected with a record. 1 being the least amount of connection and 5 being the most amount of connection.

Another great 70's rock (in this case more blues but still) record. Didn't realize that it was one of Eric Clapton's bands but you could tell once you listen. Very much enjoyed it! 3/5

I'm already a big CCR fan so this was candy. But what sticks out is how chock full of hits this one record was among their whole discography. So good! 5/5

Me... meet Paul Simon. Great record! As someone who really only knew PS though S&G this was a great introduction to his work as a solo artist. So much competent guitar work in a folk record. My standout was "Peace Like a River" 4/5

Nice. The first of what I assume are many iconic rap and hip hop records in the 1001 mix. Solid for me as it had a strong sense of jazz and sort of the older school "crate-digger" sound to it. And Keys' voice!

Good think Neil is back on Spotify ;-) Classic album with some high-water marks. BUT I still remain with Harvest Moon as my fave of Neil's.

Enjoying it. Honestly had never heard of Fred Neil before it and doubt I would have. But there's pleasant looseness through it. Everybody's Talkin' made me immediately think of Campbell's "Gentle On My Mind".

Quality! Funny to catch NY's Harvest and then two albums later catch this. Love the grooves on this one, especially that lead cut.

Didn't really connect with this one. I haven't listened to much of her catalog before and I wasn't engaged with this one.
