i dont know what to say this is actually amazing. i feel actual tingles when i listened to this album. every song is a masterpiece, i dont know what else to say, and im too lazy to comment on each song by itself :3
Pre-listen: This album cover looks like this isn't going to be something very enjoyable. (hey, future me here, i was sorta correct.)
Actual listen: I think I'll just skim through this, 35 minutes of this is just gonna be excruciating. "Monday, Monday" is... eh, fine i guess. As far as I'm concerned this is "California Dreamin': The album". Some songs are catchy, the rest of the record is nothing to write home about, but not bad per se. The choir gets old.
I might actually listen to this again later. George Michael's voice is really groovy, his delivery is compelling, the production is nice. "Freedom" is an absolutely stellar track. Not my favourite album of all time and the second part of the album is maybe a bit weaker than the first, but I definitely see a time and place for this record for sure. 3.8/5
Oh I've listened to this before, many times, I mean this is an undisputed classic. I won't be saying anything crazy if I say this is THE classic hiphop album, the album cover is also instantly recognisable. All of that said, this isn't my favourite album of all time, ha this isn't even my favourite hiphop album of all time, despite that I can certainly give it the praise it deserves. I don't think there's one bad song on here, Nas recorded one hell of an album. There's not much to say about this if im honest, the beats are ICONIC, the melody from "NY State Of Mind" plays very vibrantly in my head, it's very memorable, nas's delivery is gritty and pungent and his flow is just muah, Chef's kiss. Solid 9+/10, a solid position to come back to for a taste of hiphop.
some songs have a bossa-nova vibe to them, others sound a bit more funky, but the guitars are nice overall. I'm not crazy about this though, since I don't understand the language and all, I value lyrics in music personally, the delivery is nice i guess though. I'd rather listen to Getz/Gilberto, I know it's not the same type of music, but i feel it's kinda similar, to me at least (I might be ignorant).
Really weird sounding production, on both the Iggy mix and the Bowie mix. The tunes are great though, Iggy is positively off his rocker.
I can see myself checking out more from them in the future. I like this
Oh yes, hell yes. I've listened to this dozens of times. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest albums of all time. The best conscious hip-hop you can find. "Mortal Man" gives me ASMR every time I listen to this album. Kendrick conveys emotion so easily. His delivery leaves nothing to be desired, The production is scary good.
Just amazing.
Jeff's voice is unlike anything I've ever heard before. It's so heavenly, and buttery smooth, the song writing Is also nothing to scoff at.
10/10. 100%. One of, if not the best album of all time. Talking Heads created something so timeless that it will be adored for decades to come. Even decades later this album still sounds fresh and new. The lyrical genius at play here, leaves room for discussion in terms of meaning of the songs, such as on "Seen And Not Seen". And "Once in a Lifetime" is definitely one of my all time favourite songs.
The experimental jazz parts are a bit too heavy for my tastes, but I definitely see the appeal here.
I can definitely hear the politics on this record. "Political hiphop" is definitely an accurate label here lol. The production is great, but there are some weaker tracks. The rhymes are great, and some hooks are definitely catchy. Overall, not essential, but really good hiphop. If you like biggie, wu-tang and gangsta rap in general, this will likely be up your alley.
3 important tracks:
Bring Tha Noize, Move! and By The Time I Get To Arizona.
ALL OF THE LIGHTS!
A controversial album, from a controversial artist.
Look, we all know I don't have to say this, but Kanye's always been a nut job. Even more so now, as he's gone bat-shit crazy, because of not taking his medication. Such a shame that instead of this, we get records like "Jesus Is King" and "Vultures" now.
Hate him all you want, but the man has made, undeniably, 3 absolutely essential hiphop albums. Those being "College Dropout", "Late Registration" a more grounded and conscious Kanye, and of course "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy".
This is the first time we see the ego maniac Kanye on an album. "Yeezus" would continue this trend where he would compare himself to Jesus, and declare himself a God on one of the songs.
Amazing lyrics and bombastic beats a plenty! This album's concept is executed perfectly. The production on here is one of the best of all time, ever. Kanye and his team work wonders here, there's not one bad song here. I mean, some of the guitar riffs consistently give me chills, they're just so good. I also can't forget "Runaway", the *iconic* Kanye song, with an atmospheric distorted vocal solo at the end, and it transitions perfectly to "Hell Of A Life" too.
The features here, such as on "Gorgeous", "Devil In A New Dress" and especially "Monster", wrap it all up nicely, with a bow on top. Everything lines up to create, dare I say, a perfect album, this is still Kanye in his prime. If I was restricted to picking one hiphop album to listen to all my life, this one would be a likely pick.
Some good songs, such as "Rock With You" But otherwise very very meh
