Great, dynamic album with incredible instrumentalists. Drums and woodwinds in particular flash a lot of skill. Like much prog rock feeling takes a back seat to technicality and fantasy/sci fi themes take themselves a bit too seriously.
Good but not great. All the pieces for heavy metal are present. From aggressive drums and guitar to soaring falsetto. The organ solos are my favorite aspect. Child in Time and Flight of the Rat are worth the price of admission.
It's hard to place exactly which emotion is being expressed. It's like a stoic passion. Like the singer is detached from the writer. It sounds like a Renaissance painting. Something weird is happening, dark but entertaining. One young man is breaking the forth wall looking right at us with no expression whatsoever.
Great folk record. 4/5
Obviously not Michael's most iconic record. It may be his best. Is it funk or disco? The answer is yes. Off the Wall is fully disco and fully funk. Funky as Hell, briefly taking time to be pretty instead. 5/5 for Γ³ne of the greatest opening tracks and for Michsel still young and eccentricity free. At least on wax.
This is a Depeche Mode record. Less poppy than they would become. It's what they call the sort of thing you'd probably enjoy if you enjoy that sort of thing. Maybe more than most of this sort of thing. This is a Depeche Mode album.
No clue what they were singing about. But that rhythm section can churn butter.
America, meet the angry left wing. Incredible debut that defined heavy guitar and rap metal. Few bands have a genre to themselves. Nobody sounds like this or speaks truth with this intense urgency. Audioslave they are not.
One of the most important records from one of the most important years music has seen. Play it loud and break shit. Specifically capitalism.
How you supposed to find your groove in 36 minutes? With that bass line the opening track should be 36 minutes. This record is over before you even guess someone's sign. Good Times.
This is when Beck starts to lose me. Typical forgettable pop record from an artist that is rarely either. Good record. Not a good Beck record.
Into the Mystic is about as good as it gets. Deserving classic. It probably deserves five stars, He just seems unpleasant. Plus side b starts to feel a bit like the same song.
Almost as good as its reputation.
Bands like this are why this app exists. Just good, back to basics rock n roll that deserves to be heard. I wish I'd known The Only Ones sooner.
Some people must like The Smiths. I happen think the best thing about this record is its very short length. You do you.
Masterpiece is a subjective term. Brothers in Arms walks that line. Mark Knopfler is a master guitarist and master producer. This record is his most accessible, successful project. There are no bad songs. It opens with three hit singles and never lets up.
It's a masterpiece. Just not a transcendent, must hear masterpiece. If you like yacht rock, solo Eric Clapton, or The Moody Blues you should definitely listen to this album. 4/5.
If Tom Waits had ever been a teenager, particularly an unoriginal teenager with no particular talent that started a garage band after seeing The Misfits, he may have sounded something like this record.Link Wray's brain damaged children. I'm sure they were fun at the time.
Rather pointless. Mostly harmless.
Pillar of the genre. Clean, heavy studio work. Good song craft. No real filler. One iconic classic in Breaking the Law. Rock the Hell on!π€
Smooth. Clever. Polished.
I can never figure out I love Steely Dan or hate them. Are they interesting or mundane? The more I think about it the less I want to.
Every song sounds pretty much like a cut rate Cars. Except Cars of course, which is great. Must have been something in '79. Forgettable in 2024.
Solid white guy guitar rock. Pretty good songs. Better arrangements. I shouldn't have been surprised to find myself familiar with every song. Surely a classic and certainly above average. Not exactly essential hearing.
The very definition of punk ethos with pop sensibilities. Peak experimental noise punk at the peak moment of alternative rock. This is where uncool circles back around to cool and starts turning the corner back around to uncool again.
Drunken Butterfly, Sugar Cane, Youth Against Fascism. This is mosh pit in a Denny's on a Tuesday kind of stuff. It's all down hill from here.
Might have been a gimmick in lesser hands. Rock opera tends to mean rock musical theater. This is rock opera. It's often said it's a normal album plus Bohemian Rhapsody. In fact it's operatic throughout. Singular masterpiece by a band like no other.
