The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
May 10 2024

I'm sure the "great American songbook" is culturally significant for mid-century jazz aficionados, and I can't deny Ella Fitzgerald has a beautiful voice, however the overuse of this type of music in film had me thinking I was stuck in a Christmas rom-com movie while listening on my way to work. A 5 CD compilation is excessive except for the most dedicated fans, I listened to the first one & while there are some great tracks, that was enough for me. Probably good for background music while wrapping Christmas presents or bumping into your high school sweetheart while visiting your small home town over the holidays & getting stranded there by a snowstorm

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
May 11 2024

Very interesting & soulful rock & roll/soul album, I'd never heard of Solomon before but I enjoyed this record, i generally find this sort of music boring after a couple of tracks but this one held my attention all the way through

Vincebus Eruptum by Blue Cheer
May 12 2024

Enjoyably silly early heavy metal album, bluesy psychedelic & sludgy - only 6 tracks, too short in my opinion. While the recording & sound quality is poor, this just adds to the experimental feel of the record. Heavy guitars & drums certainly added to the emerging new sound of late 60s heavy metal at the time. This album is definitely added to my playlist

American Beauty by Grateful Dead
May 13 2024

Mediocre country rock Americana. Really struggling to understand why these were so popular. Very forgettable.

Pearl by Janis Joplin

Meh

Fear and Whiskey by Mekons

Couldn't get into this at all, dunno what to think, bizarre but not in a good way

Different Class by Pulp
May 19 2024

Fantastic album capturing the feel & sound of working class mid 90s Britain, Common People & Disco 2000 are real classics although tbh the record doesn't really have any terrible tracks on it. Highly recommended
