Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
May 22 2024

What can I say about this that hasn’t already been said. This album, quite simply, is fucking dope. Dre’s production and Snoops rapping were simply the best out there when this album came out. I am deducting a star however because the misogyny and the objectification of women has not aged well. Four stars!!

Aja by Steely Dan

So by Peter Gabriel

This is a truly amazing, almost perfect piece of 80’s art rock. The production and instrumentation are very much of their time yet it doesn’t sound dated. Although that could be a function of me looking back wistfully at my youth.

Honestly, I’m not a big Nirvana fan. I liked Nevermind and In Utero and I also thought they, and Nirvana as a band, were terribly overrated. This album, however, might be perfect and the heartbreak and melancholy that is infused throughout the album leads one to wonder if Kurt knew he wasn’t much longer for this world.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
May 29 2024

How can one possibly review this album in 2024 without acknowledging the credible allegations of child abuse leveled against the artist. I didn’t even want to listen to it because I don’t want the estate to receive royalties. But I did and I have to say that as well as I thought I knew this album I think I was a little underwhelmed. It sounds very much of its time, i.e. a little dated. Not every song is great (“The Girl Is Mine”?). Also, this came up for me two days after Purple Rain by Prince which means it’s impossible not to compare the two albums and Thriller falls far short. In short, a GOOD album by a deeply flawed artist who needed a lot of help from a lot of people compared to the guy who could literally create a perfect musical monument with literally no help whatsoever.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
May 30 2024

The album rocks! As in RAWKS!! Perfect rock album by “the greatest band in the world”. If you don’t love this album you have shitty taste in music.

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes

I don’t know. I didn’t know this album before I listened to it today. It’s possible that if I’d heard it in the early 80’s I might have been more impressed but two my ears it was nothing I haven’t heard done before, and better, by other artists.

Synchronicity by The Police
Jun 01 2024

Much better than I remembered or expected it to be. Basically flawless and brilliant songwriting and production.

Jun 02 2024

I don’t have the words to describe how this record makes feel other than familiar and comforting. I love it. Five stars!!

Jun 03 2024

I don’t know how to rate this. It’s like if you took the awesome of solo Peter Gabriel and combined it with the suck of late Genesis and solo Phil Collins and combined them and were left with the musical equivalent of nothing. As if they balanced each other so perfectly that you’re left with a blank space, a void. That’s how I felt listening to this album. I felt nothing. The instrumentation was very good so I’ll give it three stars.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Jun 04 2024

Solid, innovative rock album

Jun 06 2024

This was ok. I can definitely see how this would have been pretty earth shattering and groundbreaking when it came out. There’s at least one track that sounds a lot like the talking heads that really slaps but for the most part I wasn’t really feeling it.

Jun 08 2024

I have been listening to this album regularly for almost 35 years. It is one of my all time favorites and it I think it is at at least top 50 of all time albums. It hits, it bangs, it makes you think. It’s fucking wonderful. I love this album. Fun fact: both sides are exactly the same length so that when listening to it on cassette, and one side ends, you can immediately flip it over and start listening to the other side.

Scum by Napalm Death

God I hated this album. I won’t say any more about it. It sucked
