✅ could see this growing on me a lil, a more grown up Lou Reed than Velvet Underground and Nico, without Cale to push him into weird shit and with Bowie around to push him towards pop.

✅ took the whispering into the mic thing from gilberto and wrote poetry in english. lacks the melodic appeal of joni mitchell, but charming in his own right.

✅ strong one check, almost two but realistically don't see myself coming back to this one. some really poignant moments to be sure, very "dark side of the 'american dream'

✅ some really cool sounds that get bogged down by the uninterested psychedelic wandering. can hear how it helps lead to shoegaze but none of the pop appeal of that genre.

✅✅ album is fun as hell. low key corny, but they've got enough charisma to power through that corniness. cool beats tho, makes me wanna listen to Tribe.

best song is the first track, which is a cover. cool sound, songwriting is lacking

✅✅ while having a fair amount of influence from Bowie, this feels distinctly punk in a way that Bowie at his most confrontational never did. It still feels fresh, the vocals in parts almost sound like something from the aughts. wildly ahead of its time. might bump to ✅✅✅ with time.

✅ can really hear that technology caught up to the sound prince was trying to make. the space on this recording, the production in general is fabulous. hard to earn a double album and this one wanders around a fair amount. some cool tracks, but not a solid sense of where it's going. feels like it cooked a little too long.
