I respect the swing, and I am admittedly not all that well-versed in the Dexys Midnight Runners canon, but listening to this I can’t help but wonder why they felt the need to strip their music of all the stuff that makes the songs on Too Rye Ay so explosive and fun. I’m not so sure I buy the forgotten masterpiece narrative around this one. Really felt like a lot of half-baked thoughts that sort of just meander around, bumping into each other. Werewolves of London Light was a little confounding as well.
Mad ting innit
A totally competent, but mostly forgettable-to-me acoustic pop/rock album that fails to reach the heights of its juggernaut single, There She Goes. But then- not many songs from that era can say that they reached those heights either. Was really torn between a two and a three star rating because I think this is more of a 2.5 star for my taste, but TSG is such a banger that I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt, though I don’t see myself revisiting any tracks on this outside of the aforementioned and also Freedom Song which kinda ripped.
Good album by a good band soundtracking a good movie made by a good Director. Right on.
This is what we do it for. Really really enjoyed this. Total new discovery for me. Very excited to add this to the rotation and get more listens in. Could easily see this getting the call up to the 5 star club.
Imma da rawk lobstah. Make music silly again.
What if Nujabes, but bad? Total snoozefest. Some of the vocalists were cool, but this was a slog to get through.
Rips.
So many hits here. Listening through, I do think that I prefer some of the grittier production on their earlier stuff, though I’m not sure how much of that is owed to the fact that I was listening to the 2008 remaster on streaming. Still not sure why we feel the need to remaster perfectly fine albums every 15 years or so. But yeah, this album rocks.
Bitchin. Hell yeah.
Twin Peaks ahhhh jazz. That B3 sure is SANGIN. Really great vibes. Zoned out a bit towards the end. Really a 3.5 star ordeal for me.
Love this album. Loretta the GOAT
