1001 Albums Summary

Sounds like Fugazi. RAW. Like it. Clearly Mr Albini. Is it an album I'd like to listen to end-to-end often? Probably not. But I'd put it on as background music. Glad I heard this one.

I understand the appeal (I guess), and the album is maximalist in every way. Orchestral, solos, songs about ogres and magic, whatever. But I find it way too corny to be enjoyable.

Punk but it kinda just sounds amateur

Corny, dated, I still remember the lyrics, but it hasn't aged well. It's a product of it's time but not the parts that are worth preserving. It's missing something core.

It has a couple classics, but it's marred by the "amateurism" of Lou Reed's bad singing/mumbling. It's an album more about the storytelling than the music, but the stories are no longer that interesting. It's no surprise that the songs most enduring on the album are those with heavy instrumentation and arrangements. It's interesting to think why this album can't escape feeling "amateur", while for other punk albums, or for LCD soundystem, or even david byrne, the amateur singing "works".

Fun rock concert album but all the songs kind of sound the same.
