Elephant by The White Stripes

I have such a soft spot for the white strips; love the fast bluesy songs as well as the more stripped down folky ballads. I'm not a completion-ist so it was nice to hear some songs I didn't know from this album; really liked girl you have no faith in medicine.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Sep 05 2024

God it’s so deeply 90s -She's got such a great voice but for some reason I've never been a huge fan (even though I fit right in her prime demographic). I wonder if it's because I really like listening to the lyrics and Fiona Apple stretches out the words so much it's difficult to really get the lyrics. A very vibey album.

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Sep 06 2024

Willie Nelson seems like such a laid back guy and this album sure doesn't disprove that. Really nice, really emotional music -some interesting lyrics (For you can't hang a man for killin' a woman Who's tryin' to steal your horse: this was news to me) -I have a real soft spot for outlaw country and willie nelson has in my mind always trailed after the man in black but I'd recommend to anyone and I'm really pleased I know some of Willie's music now -a good starting point!

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Sep 09 2024

I had such a good time with this album: slightly nostalgic as my dad is a big fan but I think I would have had just as good a time going in cold. To have war pigs and go straight into paranoid is just electric it's impossible not to head bang. Post Ironman it's a bit slower metal that's less my jam but the sense of cohesion in the album means I didn't really care; the guitar and piercing vocals took me through to the end feeling amped.

Sep 10 2024

A five minute organ instrumental on the first track???? Maybe if you're the only human on earth who didn't know Elton John can play piano you would like that but it instantly turned me off the album. As a listening experience I'm sorry but so many songs overstayed their welcome and didn't reach the peaks I wanted them to. Overall I really thought I liked Elton John more than I did but found the album indulgent and far too long. I do like Saturday night though; he did a good job with that one.

Sep 11 2024

I love Bob Dylan; he’s been one of my favourite artists for years I truly think he’s a completely unique talent. And bringing it all back home is my favourite Dylan Album! When this came up on the generator I shrieked with joy. I listened to it whilst walking to work at 7am on a windy morning and I felt the season turn to autumn as I walked. The songs are so well done -some make me so emotional and some are just great listens: he pivots from emotional to upbeat so well and never languishes in sadness. He’s a poet and I am so pleased I get to listen to him.

Tigermilk by Belle & Sebastian
Sep 12 2024

It was an ok listening experience, honestly just sort of washed over me, no songs in particular stood out. It was all a little trite but I understand it was 1996 and they were music students so it was unavoidable. I really don't understand why they didn't choose 1998's Boy with the Arab Strap, which has a lot more of their more famous songs and an overall more mature sound.

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Sep 13 2024

I have feeling very rough when I listened to this so I did not have a huge capacity to be discerning but I like this! Really liked castles in the sand; the album moves really well. Groovy! Surprisingly strong hippie vibes for the first song I was very surprised!

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Sep 16 2024

I love that the album starts with a telephone ring ICONIC. Just a banger of an album; 'hanging on the telephone' 'one way or another' 'heart of glass' and 'I'm gonna love you too' all on the same album?? It's also such a good sing-a-long album so many weird vocal flourishes to try and match. The middle was a little slower for me but still good music to dance to -and the beginning and end are supreme.

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Sep 17 2024

Nice sound very mellow! Hadn’t heard of this band before so nice to pick up a new band- album a bit long

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Sep 18 2024

I feel like snoop dog makes listening to Dr Dre better but I'm not sure if Dr Dre makes listening to snoop dog better. Another extremely 90s album -the funk hip-hop mix makes easy listening.

Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott
Sep 19 2024

I liked this album! Really liked the can't stand the rain sample and sock it 2 me. Music makes you want to get down and feel like beats pass through you.

Teen Dream by Beach House
Sep 20 2024

It's a very 'languishing' sound if that makes sense? Obviously a really good voice but not very capturing. I will say -the more I listened the more it warmed on me (maybe it just needs a relisten) and I really like that they give you space at the end of the final track; it's so annoying then the next thing just starts playing with no breathing room. I liked Norway the best I think.

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
Sep 23 2024

I like that he doesn't over stay his welcome -at 17 minutes this is the shortest album by far (TAKE NOTE Elton John). I do appreciate it for what it did at the time and that he pioneered this sound but now it sounds so similar to so many other 50s rock n roll it's quite difficult to find stand out tracks. Great rumbling voice though.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Sep 25 2024

Very haunting melancholic album- I thought the piano was very beautiful but the pacing was a little slow. Definitely brings you down -particularly thinking about how sad Nina Simone's life was, but undoubtedly stirring.

Close To You by Carpenters
Sep 26 2024

I didn’t realise so many of these songs were the carpenters. Very optimistic, mellow sound- if the scores did decimals it would probably be a 3.5 but I’ll bump it to a 4 just as the album was so light and cohesive.

Sep 27 2024

I have no patience for these boys with this album. The breaking point was that Gnome song. I like the rest of the Pink Floyd I've heard but i just found this very trite and a waste of time.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Oct 02 2024

While I'm pleased he once got busy in a burger king bathroom this album is not the one for me. I just think me and the sex packets have different priorities for what we want in music. I would say the first song overstays it's welcome at over 6 minutes but by that point I had mentally checked out. Other questions: why did the MC look like a lobster? Why do they rhyme attention and prevention so much? Do they think bike horns are erotic? Is a sex packet a condom? Wait Tupac was in this band????

GI by Germs
Oct 03 2024

The first hardcore punk album! Listened with headphones, instantly got a headache, had a great time! No songs (apart from the last one) overstay their welcome, though this music always just makes you wish you were there live instead of listening to the album (particularly because of how crazy germ gigs got). Not my favourite punk band but they've got to be recognised.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Oct 04 2024

I'm not a huge Jazz fan but you can tell the album was technically very good.

Low by David Bowie
Oct 08 2024

I was tempted to give it 4 purely for ‘always crashing in the same car’ which might be my favourite Bowie song. I like the brooding atmosphere of this album and the synth tones. Not a huge fan of instrumentals in general but I did think this album was really well done.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
Oct 09 2024

Does it show that before making this album Waits took a music break and had a stint as an actor? Maybe so. I like occasional Waits songs but I find this Schick very tiring to be honest. Everyone raves about his brutal creative lyrics but I genuinely can't make out what's he's saying so I don't massively appreciate that element in this album. I also don't appreciate the general clanging noise that appears on every track. I also don't think shoehorning the word Jesus in every 16 seconds makes the album particularly deep. I will begrudgingly say the end of the album (from whistle down the wind) is alright. Upon further reflection I really did quite like the end of the album, it was just by that point I was so annoyed with the first half of the album I found it hard to admit any part was likeable.

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
Oct 10 2024

I wish I liked this album more! I get that he wrote a lot of folk songs I love, but the vocals are just not there I'm sorry; they do not hold my attention and I'm used to hearing these songs sang by Harry Nilsson and other more engaging singers. I also have to take points off for the last song which I really disliked to be honest. I really appreciate folk music, especially the 60s folk revival, but this album doesn't highlight the qualities that made the movement so special.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Oct 14 2024

Very cool, very spooky, not as pop as I’d like the cure but I like the album and flows well together. Obviously a forest is my favourite song.

Oct 17 2024

I liked the beginning of the album a lot more than the end where it felt a bit more ethereal and experimental. I think towards the middle and end it became pretty generic soft rock -would probably have given it a 2.5 if there were decimals. Really great album name.

Out of Step by Minor Threat
Oct 18 2024

I might be incapable of giving a punk band less than a 4 but I'm fine with that! Hadn't heard of minor threat before or the DC hardcore punk scene tbh (though after a bit of research I find it interesting you went for the album that didn't include their more famous songs Straight Edge or Salad days) but I really liked this album, great to mosh to (alone in my living room at least) and nice fast songs. I liked the last song (cashing in) the best I think. The album art is not great.

Elephant by The White Stripes
Oct 25 2024

I have such a soft spot for the white strips; love the fast bluesy songs as well as the more stripped down folky ballads. I'm not a completion-ist so it was nice to hear some songs I didn't know from this album; really liked girl you have no faith in medicine.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Oct 28 2024

Such impressive first three songs it's a great opener. Really laid back, reminds me off summer holidays when I was really young. It does sort of tail off with don't stop which is just a worse version of waterfall, weird folk ballad style rambles and consistent use of sparkly long chords. It really brings it at the end with fools gold -which might be my favourite.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Oct 31 2024

Really nice album -had previously only heard two weeks but liked the vibe, especially the last song. A nice winter album.
