Aladdin Sane
David BowieWas alright, didn't connect with me too much but I am fairly new to this type of music.

-Probably also around a 7/10 for me with high highs and lower lows than David Bowie - Aladdin Sane before this (see below). - It´s cool to have this as my second random album of 1001 after having known Rockit through my dad - I think it´s a synthesizer on the first song and I have heard Hancock is known as a pioneer in that area, crazy for the 1970s -VERYYY jazzy and smooth, great for listening in the background -LONG songs, might be some of my longest in the collection, I thought Chameleon ended halfway through for a second lol -Some parts remind me of the Persona videogame series soundtrack, although I am certain it is the other way around XD -I loved Chameleon, Watermelon Man wasn´t for me -Sly was ok but I prefer Veign Melters bassline -REVIEW FOR PAST ALBUM December 30th 2024 (Start): Only because I missed it there I wanted to add that I generally enjoyed David Bowies Aladdin Sane, it felt like the right length and a good mx. Time has a great message (which could also be linked forward to Persona 5s loading screen lmaooo), Panic In Detroit and The Jean Genies (country-rock idk?) vibe are great! Might be a 7/10 for me.
FANTASTIC, might be 9/10 or 10/10 and Lyrics still hold up in addition to her voice!
new to me but great guitars 5/10 but raw power is sick! all these oldies make me feel like in a movie they were horny in the 70s lmao
long ass album, legendary voice tho! let´s call the whole thing off is such a bop :D same with beginner´s luck, these songs are truly timeless I feel like so far a 8/10, I wouldn´t be mad if this is hypothetically my only choice for a long album the optimistic texts, the great instrumentation, so groovy very longing lyrics, especially for a man
(I couldn't finish Ella Fitzgerald - The Gershwin Songbook, too long for my 74min daily listening average in 2024) Man this actually really clicked, 9/10, perfect length too I find, I love concise albums. Antiwar Songs remain important unfortunately and nothing feels dated, I appreciate the positivity in Two Hearts Beat As One, which seems to have been an unpopular stance even then (old fashioned?) if I am understanding correctly. I knew Sunday Bloody Sunday before but New Year's Day and Like A Song are new favorites.
I wasn't sure at first but 4 Songs in I'm loving the instrumentation and Star has a great message :). Pretty dynamic honestly, If They Move Kill 'Em is intense and Out of the Void feels like a cold drink on a hot summer day! 8/10 (was at 7/10 at first)
an album after 2005? :O I thought that is when the book ended, now I’m curious what was added… GREAT synths and melodies 80s synthpop I think despite coming out in 2013 7/10
9/10 maybe even close to a 10 as I feel every song is a great addition and I got something out of the tracks; a message, a laugh or just nice descriptions of a morning sun... personal and infectious lyrics and I may have been to harsh on country, the mellow guitars exude comfort :) Traveling Man is funny cause you can hear her laugh midtake, something I had previously heard on Yung Lean - Shine lol :D The Mystery of Mystery presents an interesting question about how much we really can know! Very passionate voice on all her songs! And from what I remember she is well liked with a lot of philanthropy so that's great :D
So dang smooth, the percussion keeps on chugging while the melodies go crazy, lovely! :) I didn't expect to vibe so much with this as I have somewhat little prior exposure to Jazz and even less to Samba but it worked out wonderfully! I don't mind instrumental music either as I am often playing music in the background and if the lyrics aren't fitting, I find they can ruin a great instrumental. Here the instruments can play without restrictions 👍 9/10
Shadow of a Doubt's initial melody is lovely, I'd love to know what instrument that is! cool vocals too... I imagine many of the stranger guitar sounds might have been pretty novel at that time. In The Kingdom #19 is unlike anything I've ever heard, I thought it was pretentious at first but it actually tells a compelling scene and the music frames it with sound effects as if narrating a play :D didn't care too much for the 2 tracks after that personally (NOPE the break in Death To Our Friends at 3:09 makes it worth it)... Secret Girls mellow piano kinda reminds me of Drukqs - Aphex Twin lol 5/10 or 6/10 overall
Damn, Beyonce! Legendary Houstonian singer :D I only really remember 7/11 and Haunted from this album which a friend recommended to me, curious to see how it is! Interesting to see all the Jay-Z references but didn't he cheat or smth? I don't know any public gossip. Holy horniness 💀😂 Rocket hit me like a truck but the more I listen the more I like it, it's pretty sensual and that climax (pun intended) is pretty evocative. Didn't expect the Instagram line and the comfort she describes is great. Mine has a great beat and some lovely vocals by her! Drake is also here. Flawless is the best damn song so far, great (and still relevant) message, GREAT beat and of course an H-Town shoutout :) The switchup is great too, a theme on this album I find. Frank Ocean is here too?! It's like he's dropping music again! 😍 (Still gotta listen to Channel Orange, I loved Blond(e) though.) The Flawless Remix has some sick videogamey sounds. I'm pa rumpa rum pumpin on your stomach, Kanye wth 😭😭 I know she's a legend, maybe it's just cause this wasn't the mood I was expecting but right now this is like a 5/10 for me 😭 Vocals and instrumentals are standouts.
eyy no way, an album I actually have as a CD in front of me as my sister was gifted it by my aunt like a decade ago :) interesting because I don't know if I've ever listened it from front to back but I do know multiple songs. Plus for me Taylor Swift embodies artists that stick around well into the 2020s including Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus, etc. from what I remember I liked the songs, so probably like a 7/10 this is so catchy sheesh, but also feels firmly in the 2010, which I don't mind! I just realized we are halfway through the 2020s 😭 very sweet and wholesome but also cheesy pop at times lol I have heard I Know Places and another track though Benjamin, idk which one anymore though... I like the beat to Clean and Style! still a 6/10 or 7/10 for me i think
damn 2 hours again :O pretty chill guitars and vocals, kinda a raspy country voice? and at times lovely piano and experimental stuff I think my dad would like this, I didn't connect to much with it although I feel like there are a couple of good messages and more that I missed. Overall a 6/10 but man No Reply is lovely! Bottom Line Man and Way To End A Day are also new topics to me. Shrine is great two so I seem to prefer the second half of the album, that chill guitar and outro is calming. I didn't listen to the Bonus Tracks or Remixes, sorry, didn't have the energy.
I have heard of Patti Smith before... pretty strange but einzigartig so far this might be my first 3/10 or 4/10 lmao just not my type of music at 6AM I only listened to 2 songs, sorry, was busy
Wow this was a great album to return to after a long hiatus, maybe a 9/10 for me! I liked the energy and how fitting that I am listening to this on a Monday :D The bass line in That’s Entertainment is very catchy and the slow start of Music For The Last Couple surprised me! Remarkably the messages of Man In The Corner Shop and Scrape Away remain just as relevant 45 years later, which I find very impressive, although I am not thoroughly informed about the historical context of this album. Even today optimism is a rare sight which I find simultaneously understandable and a shame. Nonetheless I liked it a lot and found almost every track enjoyable, the latter half I would consider excellent! :) I would also like to hijack this review to hopefully reach some people that have rated my submitted album Stories by Avicii. Having read every review I am filled by a deep gratitude for everyone who took the time to listen and review it, no matter if it is a 1 or a 5! <3 The reviews range vastly in length and rating but I found them all quite fair, so I hope to explain my choice a bit. :) If I am not mistaken the 2010s and onwards are underrepresented in this superb collection of albums, so I figured this album might be a good snapshot of one of the most prominent artists for one of the biggest genres (pop/EDM) of the time. While nostalgia is definitely a factor and commercial EDM had (a) few other albums that might’ve fit better, I’ve seen the sentiment often that something shifted around the time that Avicii stopped touring, at the latest around the time of his tragic death. In addition I figured that almost everyone has (perhaps involuntarily haha) heard his 5 biggest hits and this album shows a wish to branch off from the typical sound with dirty drops at the time. Hopefully there is some enjoyment to be had with this unique balance even if I agree that it can sound a tad generic at times. In addition one of the reviews seemed genuinely concerned for my wellbeing so I just wanted to let them know and that their kind thoughts for an internet stranger mean a lot! I had indeed been going through a rough patch during the beginning of the year (it’s going better now thankfully!) and I find it hard to juggle writing reviews to the extent that I am satisfied with, while staying up to date with other music and responsibilities as well… This might be a long journey but I hope to continue it piece by piece ;). Much love to everyone who has read this far, left a comment and Alexander for the project! Have a great day or night! <3
