Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Jan 06 2025

Very impressed! I’d only heard the popular songs from this album before now, which is a pity as the while there are a few meandering moments, the album is otherwise brilliant. Great start to this project and will definitely be added to my regular listening rotation!

Classic chilled electronica. One of the best albums of the 90s and wonderful to hear again, as I’ve not listened to it in its entirety for many years.

The White Album by Beatles
Jan 08 2025

Strange one this. Some tracks are absolute brilliance such as While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Helter Skelter. Others are comparatively low-key but beautiful such as another Nature’s Son and Long, Long, Long. There’s honestly many strong tracks on here. I even really enjoyed Revolution 9. There aren’t many pop bands that would release an album that moves between blues, folk, proto-metal and musique concrète. It’s genuinely impressive how cohesive it all feels. My only complaints would be that a few very short, basic tracks that do feel like filler, and there maybe one or two too many novelty songs. Some of the wackier songs are definitely worth their inclusion however as it wouldn’t be The Beatles without them. It’s more that it just adds to an already long runtime. All said though, The White Album is a huge achievement. Given the amount of tension within the band at the time, it’s a testament to their incredible creativity and talent as musicians that such a sweeping collection of music was produced.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC

Some of the best hard rock in history, but also some pretty forgettable by-the-numbers stuff too. Overall though fun, catchy album. Contentious perhaps, but overall I personally prefer the albums Blow Up Your Video and The Razor’s Edge, as they were the ones I first heard back when I was a teenager in the late 80s / early 90s.
