1001 Albums Summary

I stayed away from Radiohead in this period. I considered it nothing more than whiny English music. I was always a bit of a shithead in that way. It was almost like the more people told me that I should really get over myself and check this out, the less inclined I was to. See shithead comment above. This is my first time listening to Kid A in its entirety, or even on purpose. Looking into the album, this was a new direction for the band and is different in a lot of cases to what I left behind early on. I am here for the synth sounds and downtempo of the early part of the record. This is mainly, I think, what I rejected at the time. In age, I have come to this sound more and more. I have also loosened up on what I will listen to. I denied myself this album for too long. 'Optimistic' is a great fucking tune.

I was not very much into the synth pop of my youth and this album is very much part of that. Never got into DD. This record is fine, about what I remembered. What I have discovered is the rhythm section of the Taylors. I think it is remastering, plus not listening on 80s equipment, but the bass is much more forward than I recall and is stellar. "The Chauffeur" was a revelation on this album.

Ah. An old friend. One of my favorites.

Bubonic chronic

I had only heard this in pieces earlier, first time through the full document. Also read the liner notes for the first time and some things from Shadow. Ahead of its time, or the first one in the door, I don't know, but either way it is a really good record. I also forget he's not English - really should have been.

I am from Massachusetts. I love this album.

RIP Brian Wilson. Simply a great record.
