Bob Marley & The Wailers
Probably the greatest reggae album of all time, certainly the best I’ve listened to. Favorite song is “One love/People Get Ready”, but from listening I discovered I really liked “Waiting In Vain” and “Turn Your Lights Down Low”. This album is fantastic vibes and if it were summer I very well might give this 5 stars. There’s no song on there I feel like I would want to skip the next time I listened to this album. Shoutout Marty for giving me this vinyl in perfect condition. B side is better than A side which I feel is pretty rare but really it’s all great. One love ✌️

I hadn’t heard this album or her music at all before, at least not that I can recall. Great mix of instrumentation, I love the bass on tracks like “Join The Boys” and the guitar on “People” and “Like Fire”. Percussion is solid throughout the album. This album has a good mix of vibes and sounds, some slow songs and some faster and more upbeat. I think she has a good voice though I’d say overall wasn’t my favorite, but I respect her abilities and she killed it with the arrangements.

Beatles
Look I’ll be honest this is an objectively really good album but is not my favorite Beatles album, I’ve always been a fan of earlier, simpler Beatles. I do have a great respect for how experimental this album gets with the sitar kicking off in “Love You To” and basically all of what they do with “Tommorow Never Knows”. My personal favorite song on this album is “Here there and everywhere”. Also I feel like “Yellow Submarine” gets too much hate, it’s fun and whimsical and people gotta chill out with it. “And your bird can sing” deserves a bit more recognition than it gets. I’m giving this album a four, it’s not my favorite Beatles album but it’s objectively really good and the influence it had on studio recording is obviously well known.

Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters
First of all the fact that this album is all written and recorded by Dave makes this that much better. Not many people can make this good of an album by themselves. There’s not a ton I really want to say about it, I like Dave’s voice and the power he sings with. Instrumentally, the album is solid through and through. It’s the start of the Foo Fighters sound that they’ve continuously delivered on for decades now. I’m giving this album a 4, it is rock solid from start to finish, a very enjoyable listen, and cool to see the start of foo fighters, knowing how they’ve evolved from here through the years. Dave is kind of a piece of shit for constantly cheating on his wife for years but damn he is so talented.

This was a fun album to listen to, not something I would have picked for myself so I appreciate this album generator expanding my horizons a bit more. She has a very strong voice which I really enjoyed. My favorite track was probably her rendition of “You Don’t Own Me” I really liked her version of it. I thought the album flowed well together and was able to mix happier and upbeat songs well with the slower and more emotional songs. I think this album is a 3, definitely had some songs I really enjoyed and a few I probably would skip on an another listen.

Highly Evolved
The Vines
Very cool transitions between “Autumn Shade” and “Outtathaway”. I really like how they slow it down a bit on “Homesick”. Some of their songs sound a lot like Smashing Pumpkins who I really like so this was definitely a good listen. The singers ability to go from the screams in one song to a much softer tone the next song is impressive range. I didn’t know what to expect when I saw that this was the album of the day but I was pleasantly surprised, the album flowed together nicely and mixed different sounds very well.

Guided By Voices
This album is kind of a mess. There are some songs that make it decent but they end so quickly that you don’t even get to enjoy it before the sound completely switches. I don’t think the vocalists work well together. Some of the instrumentation is good but again it’s fleeting as the songs are so short that it changes to something completely different in a flash. It just doesn’t flow all that well. I had one song of theirs from a different album saved on my phone before listening to this and it’s so far different from this album I was very surprised to see it was the same group. I’m sure it’s considered a foundational indie record and that’s why it’s on the list but i personally didn’t love it. I think my favorite song was “little whirl” but honestly I might have gotten it mixed up with another song bc of the nature of this album. They use some interesting vocal distortion stuff on the last few songs, I can see how this album is innovative and could potentially be inspiring to other artists at the time.

My favorite song is “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself”. Every OSU kickoff they play “Seven Nation Army” so I have a particular soft spot for that song. It’s a solid album I don’t have much to about it

From Elvis In Memphis
Elvis Presley
Elvis is still 97th in the world on Spotify that is mind boggling. I understand the immense influence he had and clearly still has, but personally I’m not the biggest fan of his music. “In the Ghetto” or “Suspicious Minds” would prob be my picks for favorite tracks, a little basic but they’re always good. I feel like I should have this album higher rated but it’s just my personal preference that I’m not a huge Elvis guy. Giving it a 2 but it should be noted that it’s a high 2. If we were ranking on significance or influence it would be higher but for just personal preference this is where I have it.

Half of this album was not on Spotify so I’m judging based solely on what is on Spotify, I can’t be bothered to go looking for it, especially bc what I have heard isn’t all that good to begin with. Idk if this just isn’t my type of music or what but this is kinda ass. I’m sure he was like foundational for the genre or whatever but doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s mid. I read his little snippet on his Spotify page and the first sentence compares him to Daft Punk which is one of the more disrespectful comparisons I’ve heard. To be clear I meant that it’s disrespectful to Daft Punk not to this clown. This is a 1, if I can give it lower I will but I think 1 is the lowest.

The Stranger
Billy Joel
A near perfect album. I’ve always loved Billy Joel, the first BIG concert I ever went to was him at Fenway. This album starts out strong with “Moving Out (Anthony’s Song)” and continues on with banger after banger. The opening to the song “The Stranger” is beautiful with the whistling and when the guitar kicks in and the song picks up it’s just amazing. “Scenes from an Italian restaurant” might be my favorite song on the album, its ups and downs and the storytelling is phenomenal. The way it changes and flows seamlessly is really impressive. Love the different instruments used throughout, like the saxophone parts, the percussion is solid throughout, and obviously Billy is a genius on the piano. Even the deep cuts on this album like “Everybody has a dream” and “Get it Right the First Time” are very solid, although less iconic than some of the other timeless tracks on here. The last two minutes of “Everybody has a dream” going back to that Stranger whistle is so good and the perfect way to wrap up the album. This is probably Billy Joel’s best album, I have several of his albums on vinyl but this is near the top of my list for albums I want. 5 stars without question.

Peter Gabriel 3

“Intruder” intro is very off putting, leaves you on edge the whole song, very interesting song to lead off an album. “No self control” has very dark tones, but mixed with a xylophone is very interesting. The percussion is engaging. “Start” switches the vibes swiftly with is a welcome change as it’s much smoother on the ears. “I don’t remember” is a bit more upbeat than the first few songs, but retains a few of the strange background noises. The chorus is catchy. “Family snapshot” is a much slower and more emotional song, very different from the songs preceding it, his voice is smoother here. It picks up and is a very enjoyable song. “And through the wire” has a good electric guitar and feels like a proper rock song, also cowbell. I like the backing singers in “games without frontiers”. “Not one of us” is very catchy and the chorus is solid, percussion during the bridge goes hard.

The Smiths
It’s a solid album, enjoyable listen. I prefer the smiths in smaller amounts bc the lead singers voice kinda annoys me after a while. But the instrumentation is good, slightly repetitive but the album flows together really well.
