Freak Out! by The Mothers Of Invention

You can taste the vitriol Zappa has for 60s American culture dripping off this record. I admire it for that. However, in terms of personal enjoyment, I find several of the tracks completely unlistenable. Some are funny, and I found myself at different points feeling like Zappa was musically writing punchlines. However, it’s a big mess, and not something I’d like to listen to again.

Honestly, the hits are fun 3.5/5s, and the rest don’t appeal to me at all. I’d prolly give it a 2.5

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens

This album made me cry. It’s so good. Probably my favorite all year.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones

Honestly, Gimme Shelter rocks, last track too, the rest, I could take it or leave it. I think the guitar playing is fun on a lot of these tracks, but am not a huge fan of the rest of the band. Gimme Shelter at a 5, the rest at 2/5, Ima give this a 3.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips

This surprised me with how much I loved it. Fantastic album, and I plan on listening to the rest of their catalogue.

Frank by Amy Winehouse

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake

Listen, I respect any artist making a hand-crafted record. Some of the instrumental playing on this sounds great. However, not a huge fan of Drake’s vocal deliveries. It’s a shame we lost this artist before his time, as he shows great promise here, and from what I hear on his later work as well. Great album to vibe to, but it doesn’t hit me the same way as my favorites.

Some jams, the non-hits aren’t my speed.

Like this so much more than I expected. Beautiful harmonies, and some cool blues licks mixed in there.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem

Damn bro, you didn’t have to go that hard.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison

One of my favorites ever. So good. Listen to the most recent mix if you can, they took off all that Phil Spector reverb.
