3.75/5 - Pretty good. Not my fav from Bob Marley. The overall sound has an easiness to it while conveying some dark political messages/expressions.
"No chains around my feet but I'm not free" - Concrete Jungle
"Every time I hear the crack of a whip, my blood a-runs cold" - Slave Driver
He also has some romantic themes in some of the songs to reinforce having this easygoing sense/flow.
Overall, it's a good expression of Adele's life experiences through her lyrics and singing tone. Some may say it's simple, but I believe that she offers what is needed to evoke the feelings pertinent to the contents. This album would make great songs for contemporary and lyrical performances.
Nice body of work. Her voice is very distinct which I believe carries this album further. There were some bops and there were some lulls. My enjoyment of this album overall was a 3.5ish but the artistry would be a 4.2ish. I would listen to a good portion of these songs again.
I like SZA's sound. She combines so many genres with the combination of her voice's tonality creates this neo-soul, ethereal experience. Also, the lyrics are well written and are a great portrayal of introspection.
Decent album. Some songs were lacking spice and really didn't offer much to the album as a whole.
Started off strong then coming to the half way mark to the end it all kind of blurred together. I found myself wanting more and to be brought to a new level. I did like the interludes and how it acted as a prelude to the next song while speaking on black culture and the perspectives on the black experience. I can tell that a lot of thought was put into the formation of this album.
4.5/5 - Great album; full of classics; overall has catchy tunes.
I think each song is strong on it's own. Listening to them back to back made the songs blend/blur together. I would've liked to see some breakups between the songs but definitely a solid reggae album.
Good infusion of different genres while integrating a story throughout each song to create the "Talking Book". I would lean more towards a 3.75 overall.
It was refreshing to listen to something culturally different, however, it was just ehhh off of first impression.
The lyrics were a bit redundant and kind of weak. There was not much variety in sound. Overall, it was decent.
I like the overall flow of the album. Pretty "vibey".
This album was just ehhh. Mediocre singing, draggy, little variation. Really a 2.75.
Great mix of rock, electronic, and pop. Great transitions throughout the songs and the album as a whole. Solid album even though it isn’t something I normally go for.
Leaning towards good overall. The music/instrumentation was a 4, but the singing is what brought the rating down to a 3. The singing was a bit annoying and whiny.
This album gave R&B lounge. The songs had a good flow and were relaxing to listen to. Definitely lots to read between the lines within the lyrics.
Favorite Lyrics from H2Ogate:
"Mayor of Philadelphia, whose ignorance is surpassed only by those who voted for him" (sounds familiar)
If you like never ending loops, repetition, and enjoy 'upbeat' monotony, this is the album for you.
Did I enjoy this album? Not really.
Did I hate this album? Not really.
Would I listen to this again? Not of my own freewill
There's a strong foundation here of what could be used and enhanced with layering of differing sounds and contrasting transitions.
2.6/5 (TBH)
Solid Album! I enjoyed being immersed in the Senegalese culture, and I can appreciate the use of instrumentation. The singing overall was pleasant. It was refreshing to hear the diverse vocals throughout the riffs.
4 not 5 simply because I didn't understand the lyrics to analyze the lyrics vs musicality. I did look up the translation to some of the songs and found there were a variety of topics expressed such as Senegal, love, and life. I could imagine for a native speaker this would be top tier.
Overall, great sound , interesting lyrics, and good use of artistry.
4.5/5 Better than other 4's but just missing 5
Enjoyed listening to this album. Great sound.
3.45 - This was an okay listen. The songs just blurred together. I was hoping for some sort of climax in this album but it fell short.
