At San Quentin
Johnny Cash
I’ve never taken up a full country album before, especially one that’s live, but it was a great experience. Though I haven’t listened to the full album yet, the songs I did listen to were very cheerful and somewhat comforting - Johnny Cash’s deep voice is really something special, especially the way he can sing so well live. The little texts in the middle brought a character to each song and overall, I really enjoyed it. The only reason I won’t give it 5 stars is because I’m not particularly into the country genre.

Fear Of A Black Planet
Public Enemy
Classic old school hip hop - I’ve never listened to one of those albums before that REALLY reflects what hip hop was originally about - criticising our society. The album touches a lot on the subject of racism and equality, it was certainly a very eye opening listen. I enjoyed all the beats thoroughly and this album definitely is up there

I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin, Queen of soul - need I say more? This album was as perfect as she is, I was really struggling to not add every single song into my list of favourites

Can't Buy A Thrill
Steely Dan
This album was very enjoyable - light hearted and fun. I would especially like to point out one of the songs “Fire in the hole” - the lyrics are very important to me since I feel the exact same way right now, this was a great album :))

The Gershwin Songbook
Ella Fitzgerald
This album took me a good 5 days to go over - being composed of 4 discs. I only went over 3 of them, + “Somebody loves me” and “Cheerful little earful”, since others were simply alternative versions of the previous songs.
I am personally a big fan of jazz, Ella and Gershwin, being an aspiring jazz vocalist myself. Ella has been a big inspiration to me for the past few years that I’ve immersed myself into the jazz scene. She is truly an incredible singer - I’ve only good things to say about her. The album overall was very cohesive and was composed of all of the jazz standards. The main theme seemed to be love and all of the songs had a very positive note to them. Overall I’d say I really enjoyed it, except for maybe the fact that the album was really long and all the tracks quite similar, so sometimes it was really hard to distinguish the songs from each other and I got bored, which was also part of the reason why the album took me so long to listen to. My favorite has to be “Embraceable you”, simply because I’m learning it in class right now :))
