Just awesome. Still holds up over 45 years later. Many of the non-hit songs have been stuck in my head pretty much all those years. I didn't understand how good Tina's bass work was, esp when she was a latecomer to the instrument. Not many life regrets but not seeing these guys live is near the top of that list.
Bloody Well Right -- ok it's a classic Asylum -- sounds like it wants to be in a musical. Bleh Dreamer - don't hate it but I wouldn't add it to a playlist Rudy - technically good but boring Crime of the Century - another one out of a musical Didn't finish. I never loved the group that much. Now it seems over-produced and looking to be a rock opera but without the passion and story of something like Tommy
I'd given up on albums before this came out. Familiar with so many of the songs but never paid attention until now and fired up the first track. Wow. Glad to find this gem and will put it into regular rotation
Technically good but it's a monotonous bore for me.
Is "Running" the quintessential mid 80s anthem? That synth riff still gets me 40 years later. There's a lot of 80s music that didn't age well. At all. This is mostly the exception. I was never a huge fan but the arrangements, vocals, riffs, they all stand up pretty well. There is actual artistry here. The Cloudbusting video is fantastic. I don't think I ever saw it when it was fresh.
All time classic is the Onions. An entire album of Hammond is a bit much at one go. It's damned good, but smaller bites please. 1962! A Woman, A Lover might be the actual best track Comin' Home is damned good too
Surprisingly funky at times. What a pleasant discovery. Some can be missed after a listen. "Certain Surprise" is a weird one on here. Oh wait, trombone solo for the win on that one. "Small Hours" -- trancy vibe, soothing. Not a fan of his voice which will keep this one from going into regular rotation.
Didn't like it when it came out. Still don't. Technically ok but... boring as hell. Some of it is just...bad (Well Well Well, Mummy's Dead). Bleah.
Refreshing harmonies. Melodic, sometimes catchy, and a tad overwrought. Still listenable after decades. "Straight Shooter" intro sounds like a Monkees tune. Or is it the other way 'round? Rampant apostrophe abuse on the album cover removes a star.
So many classics here. Most of 'em hold up strongly. Amazing sound for a bunch of art school kids. One of the best bands ever and this album shows both their talent and future excellence. Move 'n hustle, move 'n hustle indeed.
