Solid first and solid last few songs. The middle part was less interesting though bumping my score down.
More fascinating when you learn Bruce recorded this alone with a tape recorder. Pretty vulnerable compare to his other albums. Definitely makes his next album (his best) hit harder because of the tone shift.
Some weird shit on this one, but it has all my favourite Beatles songs so I'm biased.
Every track on this album is solid for me, but it's missing something that would bring it up to a 5/5. I think I'd also move "Love is a Losing Game" to the end since it caps off the toxic relationship with men/alcohol story nicely.
Thin White Duke era Bowie, what else needs to be said. All his albums in the 1970s, including Young Americans are perfect music for when we go up to outer space. Also cool that John Lennon is on a lot of these tracks as guitar or backing vocals.
The corporate parody aspect is interesting, but none of the tracks apart from "I Can See For Miles" stood out to me.
Not really my thing sound wise, but the topics covered by the lyrics are interesting.
Another biased review as I'm a big Simon & Garfunkel fan. Lots of good tracks on this album, including my favourite song of their's "The Only Living Boy In New York". The harmonies they do are perfection.
Not my favourite Elvis record, but I can see this one being a good vibe for driving to.
Really like the song White Rabbit. The rest of the album was just okay for me.
Probably one of the best opening song to a record ever followed by pretty mid blues/country.
One of those: "hey I know that song!" artists. A little too smooth for my tastes, but still a solid album.
Funky, but none of the tracks really stood out for me on this one.
Louis Prima's music is always fun to listen to. The shift between other genres to swing and the spoken bits are always funny. I think some of the instrumental solo songs took away from the flow of the album, but I still enjoyed this one.
I don't normally listen to instrumental "smooth" Jazz, but this one was solid to have play in the background. I like the mix of slower some slower songs and more upbeat ones. I know Miles Davis is a trumpet play, but I think some piano/drum solos to counter the trumpet/sax solos would have been cool.
I'm not the biggest grunge fan, but I thought this album was decent. Nothing really stood out though like from other Smahsing Pumpkins albums.
Gotta love headbanging to the classics. I lowkey miss the storytelling style of lyrics from this era.
I think this album had a solid start with some of U2's best songs, but the latter half wasn't as interesting for me. Also I can't listen to U2 seriously because Bono is apparently like super weird/horny at their concerts. LOL
I haven't listened to retro West African music before. Enjoyed this live one more than I thought I would. Nice vibe and the jazz drum solos were pretty good.
I've listened to System of a Down's 2nd album Toxicity countless times, but this is the first time I've listen to their 1st album. This shit slaps too. LOL
"My brother is lemon!"
Didn't really vibe with this one. I don't think the echo effect adds that much to the mix.
La Grange is probably one of my favourite rock songs. Nice to know the album it's from has some other good tracks. "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" also should be like 3 to 4 mins longer.
Listened to the vinyl version of the album. I knew more songs off this record than I thought I would. Pretty solid.
I can hear the beginnings of what would later become gothic rock/metal, but the lyrics and sounds didn't really stand out to me.
This album was like a reflection on who he was after becoming a success. Some of my favourite Kanye songs are on this album, but listening to them back after how much of a terrible person he's become, it's like he knew everything was fucked for him. I wish he learned from his own warning. Going to dock a point because he's a Nazi.
Ah, Portishead. Very interesting album. Like a sexy jazzy sounding James Bond vibe combined with Hip-Hop. Glory Box will forever be one of my favourite songs.
I can see what they were going for with the horns/sax and chaotic sound, but this really wasn't for me.
Cool to see where where Josh Homme started from. Nothing really stands out to me on this one like his later work, but its a pretty standard alt rock album from the era.
I really like Simon & Garfunkel, but this album isn't one that I listen to often apart from one song. "America" is one of my favourite songs from them. This album has some pretty weird sounds being from the 60s. There's some some drums and synths on a few tracks that would be more common decades later.
PANAMA! PANAMA-AH-AH-AH-AH-AH! PANAMA!
Nothing really stood out on this one for me, but it feels like a solid punk album from the 70s.
I can see this being more shocking for the time when it was released. Some of the transitions/interludes took me out of it, but I think they were added to make the tracks a story about life? Maybe it was a Diddy addition... I thought it was a decent old school rap album.
Solid 70s metal/rock album. RIP the prince of darkness.
Pretty solid folk album. Moondance was pretty different from the rest of the album because of the Jazz influence, but it's probably the best track on here.
Not my favourite Bowie record, but I don't hate it either. It's one of the "not giving a fuck" artsy rock album that Bowie did towards the end of his life. But the album that came after this one was really good.
Really funny that the three singles from this album were written as a joke to parody late 2000s pop music and they became three of the best pop songs of all time. Rest of the album is new for me and is pretty ahead of it's time as Psychedelic Pop/Rock had a resurgence in the last few years, but doesn't hit as hard as the singles. Of Moons, Birds & Monsters was pretty good though.
Lyrically, this album is pretty heavy. I can't speak for women as I haven't lived that experience, but putting those feelings into lyrics is very punk of them. Sound-wise, I thought this album was a standard 90s grunge album, but I think I was left waiting for a track that had more going on musically.
I liked the vibe, but no one track really stood out l. Probably because this is a movie soundtrack.
