This was a serendipitous first album pick. When I was 11 or so, a boy at summer camp was shocked to hear that I didn't really "like" music or have any favorite bands, and leant me some CDs to try out. The first was "David Bowie". And I didn't like it. I don't think I even finished it. I liked this album okay. The songs I really liked were Five Years, Rock-'n'-roll Suicide, and Ziggy Stardust. It's hard to judge a song like Starman that I've heard a million times. The rest were forgettable or I didn't like. A lot of elements felt dated, both in production and lyrics (on Five Years the singer refers to a person as "a black"). But some lyrics were quite fun, especially Ziggy Stardust (he was the nazz!). The songs I liked made me feel something, Five Years especially. That's what I want in a song. 6/10.

The crowd noises on this album are crazyy. Super high energy, and James Brown's voice is amazing. The moment where he gets the girls to scream, not "Ah!", but "Ow!": magical.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears

I've listened to this album a bunch of time over the months every time I come back to this project and I just need to leave a damn review. "Shout" is an absolute banger. Got me so pumped every time I listened to this and then the rest of the album just flows past and nothing grabs me in the same way. I love how big and full everything sounds.

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar

I liked this so much. Never been exposed to Kendrick much besides singles, but I really enjoyed this album as a start to finish experience. Powerful storytelling.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Didn't care for this. I played it while cooking and the main emotion I felt was annoyed.

Vespertine by Björk
May 22 2026

Enjoyed this, great music for working. Lyrics unfortunately heterosexual but also so weird and fun. Loved the soundscape.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings

Perfectly pleasant. Just sounded outdated to me, will probably never listen again.
