Brian Wilson is a mastermind and Pet Sounds is a work of art.
Love me some disco, Chic are a classic
Love me a good concept album. This is a phenomenal example of experienced songwriters creating an album rather than a collection of original songs
You can hear how much fun this show would have been to attend. Well crafted, high energy live set with smooth instrumental transitions
Good energy, but I'm finding many of the tracks sound similar and their simplicity makes them blend together
It's hard for me to review an Aerosmith album without bias, they were the first band I fell in love with as a kid and they were my first concert! Steven Tyler is the best frontman in rock (sorry Freddie) and I've always loved his vocal style. Aerosmith never fail to give us good ol' rock and roll while keeping the sound unique
Not my vibe, but it's lyrically strong and I'm a fan of the production
Was that "In the Hall of the Mountain King" I heard in Body and Soul?!?! Very cool album, never heard of this guy before but I loved the vibe
BONGOS?! Brahm must have been stoked on this one.
This album really tickled my percussionist brain, absolutely loved the grooves across the whole album. Didn't know these guys did the og version of Apache and it was fun to hear a lot of familiar tunes throughout.
Banger of an album, 8.5/10
Had some great stuff on here (Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR) but outside the singles off the album, the rest felt like typically blues rock.
Giving this one 6/10
Wow, an absolute masterclass in musicianship! Every note felt perfect and the dynamic control often had me forgetting that I was listening to a solo pianist the whole time. On top of this having been executed live, the story behind how the performance came to be only deepens my respect for Keith Jarrett.
Incredible performance/album and my first 5 star rating!
Beautiful songwriting! Album flowed well and I appreciated the family contributions, his sister and mom are both on the album!
Sometimes the dynamic similarities made it feel like some tracks were blending, but overall I enjoyed the listen!
7/10
Flaming Lips always do a great job at making indie rock feel experimental! Loved the way the story telling could be conveyed through the instrumentation alone.
7/10
Coming out of retirement for this one, Queen is my all-time favourite band!
Every being on the planet is born with the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody already in their heads (biology is crazy) but this album has so much more to offer! Seaside Rendezvous and Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon are such under rated songs and 39' has a real interesting story to it if you like physics. However, as much as I do love The Prophet's Song, I never understood why Queen fans rave so strongly about this one.
Overall, this is a masterpiece of an album. Freddie often steals the spotlight but Brian May's guitar playing on this album is incredible! His style, tone, and harmonies really boost Queen's orchestral sound. All of Queen's musicians do an amazing job complimenting each other and give the songs exactly what it needs.
Idk what Roger Taylor is doing to that poor car though...
9.5/10
I don't know, this one didn't do it for me. Some interesting instrumentation but I can't say I was a big fan of the vocalist. Lots of the tracks blended together for me.
6/10
This was definitely a U2 album. Sounded great and was well produced but I can't say any particular song stuck out to me. The Edge gets too much hate for his use of effects, I've grown to have more respect for him.
7/10
I enjoyed the songwriting overall but although they did a good job keeping it fresh, I guess I'm not a huge fan of the Celtic sound
6.5/10
Very cool album, I've never heard of these guys before! Lots of albums start strong and taper off, but I found this one to be different!
7/10
Cool album, I enjoyed the sound and cool to hear references to A Design For Life, Devil's Haircut, and Wonderwall in the chorus of Slide Show
7.5/10
