1001 Albums Summary

First album I stumbled upon after finding this awesome site – and honestly, not my thing at all. Way too much sing-song, way too much random tinkling, and seriously… why do the lyrics sound like they were written by a German third grader doing their English homework? Anyway, let’s just chalk it up as “contemporary” and “very 60s,” and look forward to what else is out there. Oh, and when this album dropped, my parents were two years old. Wild.

Back in 2006 I already loved Somebody Told Me on the then brand-new SingStar Rocks! for the PlayStation 2. My singing skills have pretty much stayed the same over the years – who could’ve seen that coming? The rest of the album is just as enjoyable, especially the first half which is packed with hits. A truly defining record that stands out because even in 2025 it still sounds fresh – not like something stuck in the past

The excessive use of stretched-out syllables and the harmonica always makes Bob Dylan a bit tough for me, especially at the beginning. But wow, did this album grow on me after the first 4 or 5 songs! After listening, I can definitely say I’m a bigger Dylan fan than I was before.

Lorde is the kind of artist I wish I liked more than I actually do. I can recognize the quality of her music and the emotions she conveys, but with many of her songs I just can’t seem to connect. For my sister, that last sentence is probably no less than blasphemy. That said, I still had a lot of melancholic fun with Melodrama. Especially the songs Liability and Perfect Places will stay with me for a while.
