Probably the best Beatles solo project. Absolutely gorgeous singer songwriter pop. George's voice is beautiful, the songwriting's incredible and (naturally) so is the guitar playing.
It is long as shit tho and has a few misses in there
Fav Tracks: Run of the Mill, My Sweet Lord
8.8/10
Man plays piano for an hour. It's cool ig. Understanding the context of how and why it was improvised gives it a few points but realistically I was bored throughout the whole thing.
Nothing wrong with it but just not something I could ever say I enjoyed
4.1/10
Somehow hadn't listened to this album in full before
Very little to say that hasn't been said already. Arguably the album that started the entire genre of metal. Riffs are awesome. Ozzy's awesome. Album's awesome.
Fav Track: Fairies Wear Boots
8.7/10
Came into this expecting to hate it. It surprised me. It comes across a little less over the top than guns n roses or Bon Jovi, which was the sort of uninspired 70s/80s hard rock I thought I was in for.
Generally I can't stand this sorta music but this was pretty good.
Fav Track: Luna
6.5/10
I mean it's great. Not really my taste in music tbh. A lot of the album kind of just blended into one and as a result nothing was super memorable
Subject to change if I come back to it
6.8/10
Really good fun. Enjoyed it too to bottom, but like most disco it's nothing mind blowing.
Fav Track: Thinking of You
6.4/10
This album was all over the place. Would never listen top to bottom again, but a few great songs just save it.
The good the bad and the ugly probably balance out.
Fav Track: Autonomy
4.9/10
Preferred this to Aja overall. A few songs genuinely stood out, but while Aja was flawless a few songs near the start held this one back.
Fav Tracks: Bodhisattva and King of the World
7.1/10
I definitely see the comparisons to the Beatles, though I don't think Nilson is quite at the same level as either Paul John or George
Still, one of the best written pop albums I've ever heard. The final three tracks let it down a little, but this was still a great listen.
This is the first album on the list so far that I'd never heard of prior but would consider relistening to.
Fav Track: Without You
7.5/10
Lowkey don't know how to review this. Was too much going on I'll have to relisten and rereview at some point
Elton John is an incredible songwriter. This is his first record I've listened to so I'm really unsure how to score it. Thoroughly enjoyed though. No skips.
Fav Tracks: Title Track, Levon
8.2/10
Was just so slow and repetitive. Not for me
3.5/10
This album's acclaim is naturally carried by its influence, which was obviously huge. The highs are really high, but I wouldn't feel the need to sit through the whole thing again. Also some very low lows (wtaf was revolution rock)
It did not need to be over an hour long.
Fav Tracks: Brand New Cadillac (and the Title Track)
6.7/10
I can do long songs but the 20 minute guitar solo on this was not where it's at. You're not Jimi Hendrix twin. Otherwise decent Psychadelic rock, but literally only 20 minutes of it
Imma go 5.8/10
This album's great. Idk what more to say given realistically I know nothing about Patti Smith or her influence. I had listened to the album a couple times before the challenge. Still don't have a strong opinion
Fav Track: Birdland
8.5/10 (likely to change)
Queen aren't really an album band in general. This albums no exception. It's all fine, not great. Killer Queen is clearly the hit of the album and I probably won't ever revisit any of the rest
The 5est of 5/10s
Light 8.9/10
Had to listen twice. Such a fun record
Fav Tracks: Lean Woman Blues and Rip Off
"I listen to all music (except country)"
Idk what to say on this one. This is the first piece of country I've not actively disliked, but it's also widely considered the greatest country album of all time.
Cash's songwriting is obviously incredible and his interactions with the prisoners make this album so much fun.
It's like an 8 or something
I enjoyed this, but knowing what Yes would go on to make, it is definitely not their best work. Still a solid listen
Fav Track: Yours is no Disgrace
6.9/10
This was really fantastic. So ahead of its time.
Fav Track: Student Demonstration Time
8.4/10
Im not gonna try score this /10. I hate to say it but as a piece of music this album does not hold up. It means a lot more as a political statement than an album. Overall it's aight
🤷🏼♂️
In the words of José I has nozing to zay. I think it was pretty good. It's not ground breaking. Gotta go 2 stars on the app because I don't think I'd realisticallt give it a 6. Probably like 5.9
Fun britpop. I like britpop. I have nothing else to add
This was good in my opinion
Not gonna score it /10
Strange to hear R.E.M doing jangle pop. I could never get into Out of Time or Green but this was really solid. Lots of fun.
Fav Track: Moral Kiosk
7.8/10
I thoroughly enjoyed this but not as much as I think I'm supposed to. I think it'll grow on me a lot as I hear the hits more, so I'm just gonna give it 4 stars and leave it alone for now
I was excited for this one but it was honestly just really boring. Maybe I missed something? The instrumentals were too all over the place to really get into. I didn't have any highlights. Sorry Frank
I want to hate this album for its influence on the cesspit of 90s nu-metal but it's high-key just really good. Beastie Boys were hugely impactful on the breakthrough of hip hop into the mainstream and earnt their success with genuinely fantastic experimental beats and solid rapping. This is a great album
