1001 Albums Summary

Summertime Blues is an old favorite. It's nice to rediscover it. I love the low, rumbling, base line in the background. Rock Me Baby is remarkably blues-y. Ended a bit too chaotically for my preference. Not off-putting though. Doctor Please suffers from what I think a lot of longer songs suffer from: it has a cool riff, but then it's 7 minutes long and they have to move away from it. Especially here, with a more blues-y genre where moving away from the riff feels like just noodling around in nowheresville. Out of Focus is at least shorter. Solos still come off as noodly, which is, at least, appropriate given the song's name. Second Time Around was a nice end to the album at least.

A bunch of hits. The lyrics are great, I can see why he was a heartthrob. I think it's undercut by the genre somewhat; I'm predisposed to just not take crooning seriously. Biggest critic as I attempt to actively listen is that the album is a bit of a blur. Each song seems to have the same music behind different words.

This album seems so familiar despite the fact I don't think I've ever (intentionally) listened to one of Drake's songs. As a folk lover, this is an instant favorite for me. I love the pared back melodies and melancholic lyrics

An old favorite that I cannot rate objectively. There are too many songs that I've listened to on repeat to have reaction other that a warm nostalgia
