Upon listening again, I thought most about Merry Clayton singing the backing vocal on 'Gimme Shelter'. Best part of the album; highly encourage everyone watch '20 Feet From Stardom' for an extended anecdote on her recording performance. You also get to hear the isolated vocals. Wild stuff. And an absolutely legendary performance. Stones stuff is coo enough too, I guess.

Much better than I ever gave U2 credit for; however, still some clangers/filler tracks alongside some real gems.
Sort of 'one note' in terms of execution... like, every song sounds like it could be one song - extending into various other sections, rather than, say, a whole lot of new tones/textures/vocal stylings per track.
Really quite pleasant. I was listening to it just after my roommate put on a Guided by Voices LP. Guy from Elbow has a similar timbre as GBV guy, but dang, Elbow had way cooler textures and instrumentals throughout.
I'm a hater. Too soft.
A lot of highs and lows with this one. Moments of greatness; moments of clangers and clunky lyrics... one song, 'Youth Against Fascism', I looked up on genuis.com just for fun - and saw this exchange:
