The fact that this album is still relevant twenty years later means that punk rock doesn’t accomplish anything. Well, maybe it’s good for catchy tunes. I did catch myself bopping my head. I think this album may be tainted by the context of representing Green Day’s “selling out” and going “mainstream” despite still being (rightfully) pithy towards authority. They curse a whole lot more than the versions I heard on the tv and radio. Wake me up when September ends is still a banger Are we the idiots? Maybe we graduated from American idiots to American BUFFOONS

The start of the record up to kiss me on my neck is energetic and smart and funky and flowed really nicely together. Started to drag a little in energy after that. Soulfully and masterfully done, absolutely, just not the workout music the first half was cranking out Middle three songs, AD 2000, Orange Moon and in love with you are pretty forgettable Last three songs wrap up the album nicely, if on a down note, but hey, that’s life.

This is the type of music I would expect from someone who consumed strictly peppers, milk, and cocaine There’s a time right after the (supposed) lunar landing where a lot of space-themed music was being made. What a mind blowing experience that must have been. It makes sense that David Bowie was able to give life to a rock and roller from space character since both space and rock and roll associate well with the themes of transgressing impermeable barriers, otherness, alienness.

Here it comes, the Smiths are about to blow me away … ok, just got back, they did not blow me away.

First song starts off walking with spiders. Spooky. Now he’s talking about going to Ohio in a swarm of bees. Dude’s got a thing for bugs. I’m with it. It wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t terribly interesting.

I always kinda thought of New York City rap as the jazz of rap, but overall this album feels like it has direction and purpose. Bonus points for this Biggie verse I’ve never heard before.

Guitar noises that sound like bugs and saws, awesome!
