1001 Albums Summary

1. Brighton Rock - Fun! Very elaborate instrumental breaks are not usually so much "my thing" so I preferred the first half with the singing, although the instrumental part had enough change-ups and interesting stuff to keep me engaged. 2. Killer Queen - Have heard before. Obviously an amazing track. The playful vocals are my favorite part. 3. Tenement Funster - Absolutely love the instrumental at the beginning. 4. Flick of the Wrist - Almost didn't catch the song changing. But this has very cool vibes. Maybe favorite so far..? Added to a playlist 5. Lily of the Valley - Again, the change between songs was so smooth (+ a lot of these songs have so much variation within them) that I almost didn't catch the change. Anyway, sounds very nice. 6. Now I'm Here - Maybe my favorite instrumental, can't really explain why though.. Feel this even stronger in the last half where it ramps up more. Another fun one. 7. In the lap of the gods - Now that's a start of a song that cannot be missed. So far (1st. min.) very different from the rest of the album, but I love the theatrical vibes. Reminiscent of Bohemian Rhapsody. Another fave contender. Except I liked the beginning more than the latter half that gets a bit repetetive. Except x2 the instrumental at the very end is vary fun to me. 8. Stone Cold Crazy - Admittedly the type of rock song that I don't usually enjoy *that much*. Still a nice song. 9. Dear Friends - A very different vibe from the last one. Though at least at the beginning not really my vibe either. Oh, a short one.. 10. Misfire - And again, for a very different vibe, much more upbeat now. Another short one, pretty fun but not that memorable. 11. Bring back that Leroy Brown - Okay, this is the type of unserious type of song that I enjoy quite a lot. Get's a bit repetitive. 12. She makes me - Really liking the sound of this at the beginning. While the sort of high energy rock music heavy on electric guitars and such is fun and impressive and what not, I can see myself listening to this on a more casual basis. Going into fave considerations and added to playlists. 13. In the lap of the gods... revisited - I don't have much to say about this, definitely has the vibes of an end of an album song. Overall thoughts: Very nice to finally listen to a Queen album all the way through. There's a very clear sense of cohesiveness (although some songs still stand out strongly) that I feel like is not that present in a lot of contemporary albums. It makes a nice album listening experience, but it is perhaps a bit harder to distinguish all songs from each other and pick out stand-outs. I think I'll settle on track 12 (she makes me) as my favorite. All in all, an enjoyable listening experience, but I feel like Queen will still remain the kind of band that I'll happily listen to when it's on, but don't go out of my way to seek it out or add to my rotation.

1. What's Going On - Very pleasant. Not the biggest fan of the background talking and the onomatopeia stuff in the latter part 2. What's Happening Brother - This was an even more pleasant listening experience all the way through than the last one 3. Flyin' High - Another very nice track. More moody than the last two which I like a lot. Forerunner for favorite track. 4. Save the Children - Continuing with the moody atmosphere. Not as much to my taste as the previous one. Except that the instrumental gets reeeally nice at the end 5. God is Love - Don't really have a lot to say about this one. It's a short one and the religious themes don't really appeal to me. 6. Mercy Mercy Me - Even though this one could also be seen as a pretty religious song, it's more subdued than the last one, and all in all, this is another very pleasant listening experience. Another possible favorite. 7. Right On - Pretty fun. It's a longer one, but has interesting enough sound and distinct parts to keep me engaged all the way through. 8. Wholy Holy - Veeery calming. Again, the explicit religious stuff is a bit off-putting for me. 9. Inner City Blues - I like this a lot! Another fave contender definitely. Summary: A very pleasant and nice listening experience. Marvin Gaye is one of those artists that I have heard of a lot and of course has some recognizable songs (though I had to check the discography, couldn't name any off the top of my head), but all of the song in this album were new to me. I could see myself tuning into his discography again in the future if the mood strikes me.

- "One Love": Some interesting stuff with the instrumental at times that I really like - "Blue Lines": Liking the flow here. This one is keeping me more engaged than the other tracks I've heard so far. Fave contender + added to playlist. - "Five Man Army": Another one where I like the flow, also the reggae (i think?) sound. Added to playlist. - "Unfinished Sympathy": Ooh, very interesting instrumental. Also love the vocals and the overall energy of the song (especially compared to the rest of the album which has been pretty down low so far). Def adding to a playlist and fave considerations. - "Daydreaming": Pretty interesting. The "If I was a rich man" bit got a chuckle out of me. - "Hymn of the big wheel": Feels very disjointed from the rest of the album, way too different. Also, not my vibe at all, low point of the album. - Okay, so I was somehow under the impression that Massive Attack leaned more into heavier stuff (I had heard only a couple songs beforehand), so I was in for a huge surprise with this album. At first, I also felt like I was gonna be pretty bored by this, but I got into the groove of it as it went on (maybe I had to first get over the whiplash caused by my preconceptions) - Coming up with a rating for this is difficult, because I felt like it had higher highs and lower lows compared to the other albums I've listened to so far. While I wasn't vibing with all of it, the songs that I liked, I *really* liked and can see them becoming stables in my rotation.

Not really my type of music, but I didn't mind it as background music for chores. Fave track: Bemsha Swing

I don't know if the timing was just bad on my part or if this type of "dad rock" music just does not appeal to me, but this was the first album that felt like a drag to listen through. I liked the songs with a darker/moodier atmosphere ("Welcome to the Occupation", "The One I Love", and "Oddfellows Local 151") a bit better than others.

-This is the first album that I had no idea what to expect before diving in, never heard of the band before. - The first couple of songs had some parts that I really liked, but they were constantly changing, so I couldn't get a good grasp on them. - "Onie" is very pleasant, and thankfully stays consistent all the way through, my favorite so far. - "About a Quarter to Nine": another favorite. I clearly prefer the slower more pleasant sounding songs in this album, though the more hard hitting rock songs are also quite fun. - Things got a bit too silly and eccentric even for my taste with "The King is in the Counting House" and "The Toonerville Trolley". - Overall, very mixed feelings. This album really kept me on my toes, I did not know at all what to expect at any turn. Although not all of it was to my taste, it really kept my interest all the way through and there were also quite a few things that I really liked, so I think I'll go with 3 stars.

Too experimental for me. "Lazarus" and "Dollar Days" were all right.

I guess if I have to listen to Christmas music, this album is for the most part one I don't mind too much.

I liked "Billy Jack" and "Love to the People". The other tracks I found a bit boring, but not bad. The vocal style got a bit old as the album went on, I would have loved some variety in there. 3/5.

- I wasn't a huge fan of tracks 3-5 (and 15, since it is just more of my least favorite track), but other than that, I enjoyed this a lot. - Some of my favorite tracks were "Heart of the City (Ain't No Love)" and "All I Need". I also really liked the instrumental of "Song Cry" - 4/5

I was excited when I got this album this album for two reasons; I was already familiar with the song "Them Changes" which I like a whole lot, and the album cover is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the album didn't quite meet the expectations I had set for it. It could have been an easy 5/5 for me if the rest of the songs gave at least somewhat similar energy as "Them Changes", but as it is, I'll give it a 4. It was still enjoyable and at times pretty fun. Other stand-out songs were "Walk On By", "Friend Zone" and "Drink That". I would have preferred fewer songs with longer run times to explore some of the ideas a bit further.

( My notes weren't saved :( ) I wasn't very into the first half of the album, mainly because of the vocals. "Elegia" was a high point of the album, very different from the rest and fully instrumental. Even though "Sooner than you think" and "Sub-Culture" had vocals again, they seemed to fit in those songs much better than the earlier ones. I remember "Sub-Culture" being sorta weird but in a good way. Unfortunately, the last song fell back into the same pitfalls as the first half. But to be clear, even the songs that I didn't like as much weren't that bad, some of them still had very nice instrumentals, and the vocals, while not to my taste, weren't horribly off-putting, so I'm giving this 3/5

This one was rough. The vocals were unbearable, and the instrumentals weren't offering anything exciting either. The only somewhat good song was "Transylvania Blues", which coincidentally had no singing.

Hmm, the sound is not bad at all, it was a nice listening experience, but all of the songs blended together. The album just went by with me barely noticing it. It's fine background music, but nothing more than that.
