really good production and lyricism. An album that undeniably changed modern R&B and has been a big influence on modern hip hop. Doo wop (that thing), Every Ghetto Every city, and everything is everything were standouts to me but lyrics on To Zion and Last hour were incredible
really good well composed album. Has a lot of soul and Carole King has an incredible voice. Standout tracks for me were "it's too late", "where you lead" and "(you make me feel like) a natural born woman". The lyrics are evoking and beautifully convey the emotions and themes of the song. The album cover also has a very nice cat.
Should be 4.5/5 but you can't do half stars so I'll give it 5 cos I think it's closer to a five then a four
really really enjoyable listen. Really good pacing like powerful in some songs and much more gentle in others. Standouts for me were shadowboxer, The first taste and Carrion. Really good song writing and vocals and a lot of songs have a chord progression near the chorus or in the chorus that scratches my brain in a nice way.
some killer riffs and good drums but nothing like ridiculously good and I found the lyrics really quite cringe and over the top
low-key just tasteful coworker music
Really good groove and undeniably influential. The album has very very strong messages that are always relevant especially now and are delivered perfectly. Great musicianship as well and overall very little wrong with this album if anything. Standouts to me were obviously the big hits "jammin" and "three little birds" but also "waiting in vain" and "so much things to say"
I'd give it 4 and a half but there's no half option so I'll round it up to
it was a pretty good album had some charm but overall just felt like a really safe standard rock album which definitely have their place but it just felt like it missed something. Good guitar and vocals and some good tracks such as "take it easy", "train leaves here this morning" and "early bird"
maybe I need to listen to it more and eagles in general but personally I this album and even the band just don't really excite me or engage me much
very soulful lots of personality. Really good solo instrumentals and for 1957 really well produced. The brass section is great and give every song depth. The jive in each song gives it really good feel. Standouts for me were "blueberry hill", "Blue Monday" and "Mardi Gras in new Orleans". But a really nice easy listen that had some flare and character
A very nice homage to earlier hip hop. Good samples like the Jackson 5s dance machine in "move". Really good flow and just satisfying hooks. Standout tracks personally were "gettin up", "dance on glass" and "move". Overall I think a very well done return to original hip hop whilst still keeping modern elements creating a really smooth, clean, sonically soothing album
Great album really good instrumentation and filled with funk but holy horny. The reviews earlier described this as sexy and sensual and if sex was an album and I believe it now. I don't inherently have anything wrong and it definitely doesn't take away from the incredible song writing but I do think it gets slightly carried like in the moaning in "you sure love to ball" but it was written from Gaye's stunted sexuality as a result of his father's abuse so I can't judge it too harshly but overall definitely definitely recommend. Standout tracks for me were obviously "let's get it on", "come get to this" and "you sure love to ball"
I came into this expecting like really cringe co worker music cos from the limited SoaD I've listened to that's what it's sounded like to me and honestly really wasn't that bad. It had some definite tones of ska and funk which I'm always a fan of and just felt like a bit more an aggressive and angry version of that which when you're like ready for it suits it quite well. Some great drums and lyrics too to be honest although sometimes I did find the lyrics a bit cringe
I'm all for experimenting don't get me wrong it's great and when done right it's important to push the boundaries and create new experiences. However in my opinion the way this album merges heavy metal, funk, rap and at times like synth ballads is just a completely jarring experience. Maybe it's just me but the rapping in "epic" just felt so uncomfortable and unnatural. There was some good music but when you think about all the other stuff coming out at that time (I wanna be adored, Dolittle, 3 feet high and rising) it just falls flat a bit. I just found it overall too unsettling and just jarring to fully enjoy.
A pretty easy listen for heavy metal and there's nothing inherently wrong but it just sounds like any iron maiden album or just any power metal album of that time. That doesn't mean it's anything bad and I'm sure it's an amazing album for a lot of people and there some good songs but just for me it brings nothing new to the table it's just a really average power metal album. Bonus points for being the first though that's pretty auraful
this had so much potential but I can't see past the relentless misogyny. Like even if it is just part of the tuff guy persona it's not tuff to just horrifically hate women and constantly call them bitches and hoes. It's so ironic that one of the biggest themes of the album is how black people and communities are oppressed and then the other theme is about oppressing women. Really ruins the album
really good album. The foundation of synth pop and just electric music in general. Really good storytelling
Some really interesting ideas and parts but just on the whole found it struggling to find anything like outstanding from it. I'm sure it might just be a personal thing but the album kind of just felt like a lackluster can't buy a thrill and whilst there were interesting parts of songs but nothing that made me stop and really appreciate it. Not a bad album by any means but for me just also nothing amazing
personal standouts were "asylum", "school" and "bloody well right"
I like psychedelic music and ultimately I didn't find anything on this album ridiculously bad I think it's quiet soothing at times to get lost in the droney music but then like you'd get like massively disrupted by wailing guitars which was annoying at first but I actually kinda like it. This whole album feels like a proto mbv album and like a mix between the doors and the velvet underground. To be honest really not as bad as people make it out I had a good listen overall. I don't mean it a disservice by giving it a 3 but you compare to what mbv or the boo radleys or panchiko were going for at a similar time or the psychedelic stuff that came before and it loses some status in my opinion
really honest and raw but with insanely good production and harmony's. Genuinely an insane sonic experience with a perfect blend of emotion and experimentation. I wouldn't casually put this on and you do need to sit down and listen to it but an insanely good album
