Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos

Some interesting piano motifs - particularly on 'Silent All These Years' (fave so far). 'Winter' is a good track - dramatic and emotional. Very piano heavy - some of the melodies sound like something you'd hear in a musical - e.g. 'Happy Phantom'. Feels quite 90s - reminds me of the drama and emotion in parts of Damien Rice's O' and Jeff Buckley's 'Grace', especially the acapella parts. Vocals are a bit yodel-ly in parts - Kate Bush-esque. On second listen vocals feel a bit like Chappell Roan

New Forms by Roni Size
Jan 09 2026

Bristol rave scene. DnB/Jungle. New forms is a good track with cool vocals. Watching windows is good, funky beat. For a DnB album, it's giving a decent amount of variety. Destination is also a fun track

Oxygène by Jean-Michel Jarre
Jan 13 2026

Ambient, instrumental. Feels like I'm in space. Seems to come to life midway through track 2. Track 5 is fairly upbeat - Why does one of the melodies remind me of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love'? Each track blends into one - kinda good to work to though once I've had a coffee

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Jan 14 2026

Think I already know 'The Way We Swing'. I enjoyed 'Freaks of the Industry' haha, funny dilemma, situational lyrics and the 'Love to Love You Baby' Donna Summer sample worked well. I really like the little samples that came in at random points - Chic's 'Good Times' featuring in 'Doowutchyalike'. Packetman is funky - nice sax

All Hail the Queen by Queen Latifah
Jan 15 2026

Come into My House - house track. The Pros - dub track. Cool to see a variety of genres within a hip-hop album - makes it very listenable

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Jan 16 2026

The reason I like Jurassic 5. Good melodies and cool rapping rhythms, you can't not bop your head along. I enjoy the call and response style - a lot less dated than other old school hip-hop. Thin Line is a banger

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Jan 19 2026

Quite messy, all over the place, melodies and vocals. Imagine an old bloke down the pub who's had one too many. 'Weigted Down' was a fairly nice track, but the album overall feels pretty solemn

A Wizard, A True Star by Todd Rundgren
Jan 20 2026

Kinda eccentric. Interesting, unique interludes. Quite boppy vocals - Mika vibes. Circus-like in places. A bit epic in parts. I like 'Sometimes I don't know what to feel' - reminds me of his more famous track 'I saw the light'. 'I'm so proud' is a really beautiful track - the medley that this track is part of kinda saves the album and amps it up in terms of rating. Some quite iconic-sounding 70s tracks towards the back end of the album.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Jan 21 2026

Very listenable. Some nice brassy sounds and jazzy beats. 'Check the Rhime' has an old soul sample, but can't think what. Can see why this would have been seen as a great album at the time - seems ahead of its time. Busta Rhymes feature good way to wrap the album up.

Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
Jan 22 2026

First track and I’m already thinking this is going to be a struggle to get through. Vocally unique - haunting, swamp-like, pirate-like in parts. ‘Jockey full of bourbon’ is actually quite good, good rhythm. Never heard anything like this in popular music, almost sounds like it should be in a film or a musical. The odd bit of beauty, for example ‘Time’ shining sun-like through this dark and gloomy cloud of an album.

Vulnicura by Björk
Jan 23 2026

It feels like every track is a concept that she tries out in different forms - so that's why every song is so bloody long! I zone out and then realise 5 minutes later I'm still listening to the same song - some of these lyrics come out of her mouth painstakingly slow, like can she spit it out?! Most of the keys used are minor, and lots of clashing notes that aren't that easy on the ears. Futuristic sounding.

Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Jan 26 2026

Started well, but then moved to screechy, out-of-time, out-of-tune flute and strings. Feels quite chant-y and meandering vocally, and then instrumentally feels like they went 'how many instruments do you want playing at the same time?' and Robert Wyatt went 'YES'. There are some more pleasant tracks, but they are juxtaposed by utter rackets

Document by R.E.M.
Jan 27 2026

Very easy listening. Enjoying this so far - more than I was expecting. Good choruses - has a 90s feel to it, which I think, because of that, it does sound a bit dated in places - e.g. 'It's the end of the world as we know it'. A bit twangy for me as an overall sound, but a pleasant album.

Electric Prunes by The Electric Prunes
Jan 28 2026

Feels very of the time. 'The King is in his counting house' - brought back so many memories - what a throwback!

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Jan 29 2026

FINALLY an album I like from a genre I love! Solange is Solange. The dialogue interludes created an atmosphere that evokes this feeling of the power and history of being black - so beautifully put together! 'Cranes in the Sky' is just so amazing. This might be the first album that I agree everyone should listen to before they die - it's a very important listen - it's what being black is all about.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Jan 30 2026

Not listened properly so will come back to it

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Feb 03 2026

So glad I’m doing this 1001 albums thing otherwise probably wouldn’t have listened to this album. So good, powerful, fun, sexy, empowering, emotional. Love that literally every song has the ‘missy elliot exclusive’ tag, kinda iconic.

My Generation by The Who
Feb 05 2026

didn't listen to this, so will come back to this lol

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Feb 09 2026

Instrumental, experimental, many different melodies/medleys/motifs in one long track of 13 mins. 2nd track is more normal, with lyrics, and is actually quite pleasant. Some interesting sounds. I like the use of strings, and I feel like the album manages to keep enough variation for the most part. I did actually enjoy the vocal parts of this album, and the drum rhythms were good, but it was quite over the place in terms of structure
