1001 Albums Summary

The last minute of Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes is some of the most beautiful pop music you'll ever hear. The whole album is also some of the most beautiful pop music you'll ever hear. I've been trying to figure out what a "roly poly little bat faced girl" is since I was like 6 years old.

Things I like about the album: The synth melody from Jump with that really cool bass sound underneath it. The drums on Hot for Teacher before the guitar comes in. Everything else sounds awful. Everything I dislike about rock music in one package. Emotionless guitar solos, ceaseless machismo, nothing to spark any kind of feeling.

While I do consider myself a ska fan, the best stuff here is what's closest to the sensibilities of 70s UK punk as a whole. (Dawning of A) New Era is a real highlight for me. But the whole album is great.

Pink Floyd don't speak to me the way they used to, but they were capable of a pretty remarkable atmosphere.

Loooooove this songwriting. Excellent meat-and-potatoes punk rock. Used especially.

Man in the Mirror is an extreme lowpoint in a great album. Better song than The Girl Is Mine though.

It's impossible for me not to love Kool Keith and his nonsense.

Out of all the albums on this list that I've heard before, this is easily the worst of them. No disrespect to the ack-ack-ack-ack but the rest of it's pretty grating.

I believe it was Howard Hawks who said "A good indie psych pop album is three great songs and no bad ones."

I know nothing about this era of dance music but this feels like a shibuya-kei album and I like that.

Gotta reserve the fifth star for Bookends.
