Perfect execution of their vision for rock and roll. I just don’t love listening through it front to back.
I do not get the appeal. A mix of psych rock that was done better on Strange Days, drunk local band blues that was done better on LA Woman, and a few silly ones. Peace Frog is a banger though.
Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five are classics. The time signature experimentation never feels like a gimmick, but a couple of the songs feel like they never really get going.
Creates a very specific mood very effectively. I like the instrumentals more than the vocals.
80s radio rock. It’s a competent example of it, but I’m not a fan.
High-octane arena rock, but the singer seems to be channeling the wrong Thom Yorke, like, We Suck Young Blood instead of Paranoid Android. Lots of neat production choices in each individual song, but the overall effect gets exhausting.
More experimental than I expected having only heard Heaven or Las Vegas. Some of the songs feel like sketches, but the ones that are more fully fleshed out are very interesting.
I have no idea if this is good and I am not particularly interested in listening to enough similar things to figure it out.
A little silly and self-serious, but there’s no denying they were onto something.
Doesn’t do it for me. There’s a section in Strange Kind of Woman where the singer parrots the guitar solo like in the outro to You Shook Me by Led Zeppelin, except instead of being one minute long and pretty cool, it’s like 5 minutes long and extremely annoying.
I liked this a lot. Somehow feels loose and fresh even though it is obviously very meticulously put together.
I gotta be in a very specific mood for Bill Callahan, but when I am in that mood, he really does it for me.
It all blends together too much, and the vocals are weird. You Shook Me All Night Long kicks ass though.
Couldn’t really get into it, but her voice is very soothing.
Whimsical and fun, sometimes a little too goofy for me. The sound is very warm and fits the tone of the lyrics really well.
There is artistic merit in making an album that feels like having a headache that lasts all day, but it’s not particularly enjoyable.
Definitely a Bob Dylan album. Has all the characteristics of a Bob Dylan album.
