I had already listened to Chameleon and Watermelon Man previously, so when I saw Herbie Hancock popped up, I was delighted to check out the rest of this jazz/funk album. Overall very funky and upbeat tones, which I vibe very much with. He's an extremely talented musician and his work amazes me. The only reason I took a point off is for the lack of lyricism, which although works wonderfully in an album like this, makes me slightly less excited for it since I really enjoy studying and interpreting lyrics. But OH GOD, does he make it up for the wordeful and absolutely chirpy tunes in his music. I'm no music expert, but even I can recognize the genius behind that man's mind to compose such cohesive yet fun little songs.
Very diverse album with many different moods and beats. Some songs weren't exactly my style, but I still enjoyed most tracks. I'll have to give it a relisten both to add a few songs to my playlist and to take a closer look at the lyrics.
I will say that it's pretty ironic listening to an album considered modern in the time of 1962, which now, in 2026, sounds so classic and aged. Still, Ray Charles is an icon in the jazz scene. What he lacks in witty lyrics and meaningful themes he makes up for in his funky tunes and steady singing. At the time, love songs were the most popular, so it's expected that's what he would produce. I wouldn't say this album is anything special, but when considering the time it was released in, it's understandable that it had a major impact in how people viewed jazz and even the grassroots of 'rock' music. Currently, it's not as impactful, not in modern society or even to me personally. It's still a very good listen and well-crafted album though.
YAYYY JOJO REFERENCE!!! I don't think I've ever actually listened to Pink Floyd before, but I really liked their sound. It was not what I was expecting, but definetely in a good way, I can't wait to check out some more of their music.
too slow for my personal taste
The tone of this album is very casual and makes me feel cozy. Country or folk or somewhere in between, I appreciate the cowboy motifs. Feels like stopping at a sideroad wooden cabin bar in the middle of a one-man bittersweet roadtrip, drinking your worries and problems away. Mixing the dread of the past, the uncertainty of the future. Hope for a new beggining and the sweet tang of familiar memories. No one minds your presence, giving you just enough attention to not make you invisible while leaving you to ruminate your own thoughts. Only 4 or 5 other people frequent the establishment. Despite the differences in each's journey, there is a mutual understanding of the weight you all carry, and their ignorance falls swiftly like a warm blanket. They might not known what you went through, but they comprehend you're better if left alone.

Very generic love songs. Guitar brings some nice tunes, but otherwise pretty unremarkable. Not personally enjoyable and sounds more like radio material. Or the kind of music played by an unnecessarily loud band in an open space restaraunt a bit too expensive for the overall quality.
I guess the talent really runs in the family. I quite enjoyed this album, right from the start, the message was clear and the RnB beats were very active and fun to listen to. My main criticisms are the excessive interludes, which I get are meant to transition the song topics, but it feels more like abrupt pauses in the music, and to me takes more away from the work than actually adding anything. That and the song "Someday is Tonight" are my only issues with this. The song felt completely out of place, both melodically and lyrically, I also felt a bit weird listening to a song that is presumably a girl telling her boyfriend that she's ready for him to pop her cherry. Overall though, pretty good album, although nothing remarkable. The themes and topics carried throughout the songs definetely help me appreciate it a little more.
both the album title and artist's name makes me biased to give this a high rating. However, when listening through the album, I didn't enjoy it very much. It's a good indie rock album, with some good drum beats, but overall didn't find it very special. The lyrics are a little hard to decipher, so maybe they hold more value that I'm not attributing to this album. I consider it good background music, it holds that tricky balance of being interesting enough to not put me to sleep, bug generic enough to not take over all my attention. Maybe listening to it without doing anything else would affect my review, but I really don't have the time, and this is personal review so it's solely based on my opinion, so if you disagree, then you disagree and I'm not arguing about this.
Not much to say. Obviously the Gorillaz is a very talented band and 'Clint Eastwood' is quite a famous track from this album, but it's not personally my style or the kind of music I vibe with.
