First album I got here. Would've given a 2.5 but since half stars don't exist here I'll round it up to a 3. Only listened until Track 12/59 ("The Man I Love"). Album way too long with not enough variety to justify the 3h15m runtime. Not bad by any means, just not interesting enough for me to stick around for.
This is the second album I got from here. I tend to prefer more 'modern', 90s-2000s era rock, but this was very enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the longer tracks ("Ramble Tamble" & "Through The Grapevine"), the jam session instrumental parts were a nice vibe. Very cool to see how the genre evolved since it's earlier days :^]
Third album i got from here! So cool!
The euphoric joy of "The Big Sky" and then the darker, eerie atmosphere of "Mother Stands For Comfort" immediately after was certainly a unique experience and I'm glad I had it. Those are my first two favourites. "Cloudbusting" is also great!
Further into the album I can say this whole thing is an experience, actually. Beautiful and full of whimsy and chaotic and a little scary sometimes (like whatever the hell is going on in "Waking The Witch" but i fw it!!)
My other two favourites from this album are the last, "Hello Earth" & "The Morning Fog".
Not the type of music I would jam out to in my own time, but definitely a work of art in the way that you'd appreciate a Renaissance painting in a museum. This whole album is a freaking masterpiece <3
Honestly the only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that I feel this album is better for an ambient, atmospheric background music, like a movie or game soundtrack for example, and not "headphone music", if that makes sense. I'm mainly started the 1001 Albums challenge to find new music for my playlists and broaden my horizons and I'm glad I did.
Gives me the same vibes as Headlock by Imogen Heap, another artist whose albums I want to explore. Apparently she was inspired by Kate Bush so that's cool!! I wonder if any of her albums are on this list too :^]
I like that this one was short & sweet. Not much to say, really. I'm neutral on it. It was "just alright" at worst, and "pretty good" at best. Impressive for its time I'm sure, and overall it was a pleasant enough listen, but not really my thing.
5th album i got from here and my favourite so far! This one gets my first 5 stars :^D Late 90s is my favourite era of rock music
I've gotten quite a bit of their songs recommended to me on YouTube & Spotify before but I haven't listened to a full album of theirs all the way through until today. Very happy I did!!
Top tracks for me: The Bronze & Mexicola
Not really my type of music, but I can appreciate it for what it is. Of course Adele's vocal talent and the orchestral(? - not sure if this is the right term) production of some songs are fantastic, but when I listen to music I want a BANGER.
The cadence in which she sings the chorus of "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" annoys me honestly and the instrumental sounds like boring corporate slop. Definitely my least favourite song from here. Like it's worse than just being boring, it actively bugs me.
"I Miss You" which plays right afterwards is a LOT better.
I think my favourite is "River Lea".
The thing that confuses me is um.. she was only 25 when this album was first being made? And most of these songs are about lamenting the loss of your youth?? Why are you acting like you're middle aged at 25??? I guess that's what having a kid at 24 does to you.
Very British
First two songs were pretty boring for me but the album grew on me overall!
"Male Model" & "Teenage Kicks" are my favourite tracks.
The vocals on "Jump Boys" sounded weirdly familiar to me and I couldn't quite place it... it sounds like fucking Present Mic from My Hero Academia lmfaoooo
I picked the Deluxe version instead of the original - which has 6 bonus tracks.
My second 5-star out of the 8 albums I've been given so far! I love the eerie yet intense electronic soundscapes, and much of the lyrics seem to be about obsessive love, in my interpretation at least. I love a good character study of a weird and fucked up person with a crush.
My favourites: "World In My Eyes", "Policy Of Truth", "Dangerous", "Kaleid (7" Version)", & "Sea Of Sin (Tonal Mix)".
"World In My Eyes" & "Enjoy The Silence" sounded familiar to me immediately upon listening, I must have heard them when I was very young and just forgot about them lol. Great songs tho! I'm happy that I'll remember them now.
"Memphisto" is terrifyingly beautiful masterpiece that deserves to be in a film score. Same goes for "Sibeling".
Apparently, from the comments of YT Music, "Memphisto" was used in SKIBIDI TOILET????!!!!!
"Kaleid (7" Version)" is a certified banger, it really reminds me of the Bad Future tracks from Sonic CD (very good video game ost you should listen to! there's a US version and a JP version, go hear them both :^]).
The instrumental of "Happiest Girl (Jack Mix)" also has the same vibe.
Hell freaking yeah, my favourite album from here so far and another 5-star for the books. Gives me good memories of watching MTV and VH1 music videos when I was like 4 years old.
THIS is the kind of grungey metal I love and want more of.
Not screamo bullshit, or the growlings of a rabid dog begging to be put down, or mindless strumming of an electric guitar as fast as you can with no rhyme or rhythm, or shitty lyrics that are just fake-edgy for the sake of it with no meaningful commentary.
I wrote down my favourite tracks SOMEWHERE but I lost it. So I'll eventually go back and re-listen to put them here. "God Smack" is a certified banger and definitely on there though (and is the name of another band whose albums I hope are on this list).
Great guitar work.
Although, I can't help but find the singer(s) voice(s) a little bit annoying. It sounds like she's straining her voice and on the verge of crying, or like she forgot to do vocal warm-ups and only went with the first take on vocals. Kathleen Hanna (Le Tigre, Bikini Kill) does it better, in my very personal opinion.
However I did enjoy the album overall.
"Jenny" is my favourite track, and the style that I believe the main singer's vocals fits best with. I'm curious to find out if another album of theirs has more of this style.
Some jazzy-sounding stuff is nice for a change, but i only really liked 2 songs from this one: "Thankfully Not Living In Yorkshire It Doesn't Apply" & "The Teams That Meet In Caffs"
Alright so my version of the album is specifically titled "Kick Out The Jams [Live] [Japan Remastered]", i don't know if it's a different version of the Live album chosen because I'm using YT Music and not Shittify
Right off the bat I can say that the cover of "Kick Out The Jams" by The Presidents Of The United States Of America is way better.
Ending off with "Starship" was certainly, um.. an interesting experience!
Overall, the concert recordings were pretty fun to listen to. Very impressive for its time of 1969.
My favourite track is "I Want You Right Now" but the slurping and smacking their lips at the middle part f*cking killed me dude
For some reason "Rockafeller Skank" wasn't available to stream right on the album itself, I had to find it and stream it separately.
So, this album is similar to a lot of things I already like!
In particular, it sounds just like video game OSTs I love (Sonic Rush and Jet Set Radio) composed by Hideki Naganuma, he even named Fatboy Slim as one of his inspirations. He even uses the same samples! Very cool. I also recognize the same samples being used in Friday Night Funkin.
I'm happy to get more breakbeat music recommended for me to fill out my taste of the Breakbeat-Breakcore-Drum&Bass trifecta!!
I remember getting into Lunatic Calm (another breakbeat artist I highly recommend) when I was a kid through watching The Matrix and a 2000's British cartoon called Eddsworld lololol
And I do really enjoy breakcore artists (Femtanyl, Machine Girl, Sewerslvt, ect) and I've been a fan of drum & bass since my very early childhood discovering the UKF yt channel and then The Prodigy & Pendulum........
So all rambling aside, check some of those things I mentioned if you're interested in more drum-heavy music like this! :^D
Favourite tracks: "Gangster Trippin", "Kalifornia" (this one slaps so hard oh my gawwddd), and the more techno style of "Acid 8000" is pretty kewl too
Least favourite: "In Heaven" (it's just annoying and not catchy enough to justify it's repetitiveness)
First hip-hop album I got from here.
And this is how I discover where the "my longest yeah boi ever" meme came from lol
Favourite tracks: "Cold Lampin' With Flavor", "Caught, Can We Get A Witness?"
"Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos", "Prophets Of Rage",
And I especially love the rock-inspired beats on "She Watch Channel Zero?!" & "Party For Your Right To Fight"
So overall, this is some good oldschool NY rap that I want more of!
feeling like a british cowboy rn
Listened to this during my first time eating at a Cracker Barrel
First country album from here. Never really been a country gal, but I do kind of like "Big Iron", it's a very iconic song.
Another one I liked more than I expected to is "The Master's Call", but I wouldn't say i have any favourites.
I appreciate the storytelling, but that's about as far as my praises can go.
"Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" was nice. I liked the variety of instruments.... overall not my thing though
I wish I could see what everyone else loves about this album but I can't sadly. I do like David Bowie so I thought I'd like this one but nope, not for me
Awesome. I liked nearly every song here. This is like Coldplay for people who don't cheat.
Heads Will Roll was an iconic cultural reset
But I just wish this album kept the same energy throughout, it's like the fire got put out too early not even halfway down the tracklist...
The vibes are okay but it's just not stimulating enough for me
