Quintessential post-punk revival, blending Riot Grrl with British Invasion. Karen O gives Johnny Rotten a run for his money. 23 years later and the standout tracks are still "Maps" and "Black Tongue". Every time I listen to Maps it's like hearing it for the first time.
Fascist Groove Thang is really fun, but otherwise I found this to be plain decent synthpop.
Always have a good time listening to the beach boys, even if their songs sound pretty similar to me. I kept googling to see if this was before or after they collabbed with charles manson
I liked it! Nothing much to say other than it made me feel like I was back in high school and I think Beck has better stuff than Sea Change
An absolute blast! Extraordinarily fun intersection of space rock, prog rock and psychedelia. The Pink Floyd influence is not subtle but I think they really made it their own. Nothing but a good time in my opinion.
Feels like it would be right at home in a Rankin & Bass 2D animated movie. Really likes Old Kentucky Home. Makes total sense that John Petersen was their original drummer before leaving to join Harpers Bizarre. I like that it has that early 60s rock sound with a lot more folk influence than other bands of the time.
Album of ALL TIME!!! Even better since I listened to this album on repeat when I first read steel ball run & now that the anime is airing I've been listening to it again. This is essential Johnny Cash and some of the best country music ever recorded, in my opinion: working class woes with a fire of hope still burning somewhere in the middle.
The album cover gave my false hope this band had women in it and made me realize this album generator hasn't shown me an album including a woman since Fever to Tell two weeks ago. ANYWAY fun album, you can definitely tell Roxy Music is where Brian Eno cut his teeth. But I think I may be too burnt out on brit rock to properly appreciate this album.
I looove Miles Davis. He's a musician that actually makes me want to put on his record and do nothing but close my eyes, sit, and listen. Hard to decide whether I like Kind Of Blue or Bitches Brew better
Always a damn good listen. I'm still surprised every time I see this album was made in 1968, the sound is just years ahead of other rock music at the time. Sympathy for the Devil never gets old
"Disorder" is my favorite off the album, and it's one I like to sing in the car with the window rolled down. But I can't listen to Joy Division without feeling a sense of melancholy, no matter how much I like the music. I like this album, I like the heartbeat drums of Wilderness and the exciting synth in Insight that gives you a lovely little preview of how the band will mature when they become New Order. For how short-lived the band was they're more than just a footnote in the history of post-punk, at least for me, I think this album and the band itself is proof that no matter how bad things get, there is still the music, and there is still dancing, and there can still be joy. I hope Ian Curtis is somewhere peaceful and beautiful.
