1001 Albums Summary

Feels like cheating to get this at the start. Obviously an amazing voice. Oddly more depth to the album as a whole than expected but having said that, stays very much on its theme. But its a classic, one of THE defining records of its genre. Respect makes it a 5 alone.

Enjoyed this, more than maybe I thought I would. Early rock n roll, jazz, bit of jive, bit of swing, but overall fun. Songs tend to blend in to one another a bit but its a fun record. And I appreciate it for being ahead of its time in some ways. 4/5.

How do you follow up such an iconic title track in your album? You don't really, apparently. You just riff around the same theme, even essentially reprising the song. But when the title track is so good you can hardly blame him. Lesson from this album is that Marvin fuuuuucckkksss. 4/5.

A great album but perhaps not her best. Maybe a lack of variety but made up for by that incredible voice and wonderful Motown sound. 4/5

It's Kate Bush. It's her best album. It opens with possibly the best song of all time. Its absolutely wonderful and it only scores 5/5 because "numbers", "ratings" and "basic logic" are all bullshit and won't allow me to give it about 12 out of 5.

Perfect

I was quite interested getting this. I knew and liked Teenage Kicks, having heard it via John Peel, but I'd never listened to more by the Undertones so I thought of this as a good chance to explore more. Glad I did, but it hasn't inspired me to get more into them. It isnt bad, it's decent enough punk but on balance not my thing. Appreciate it for what it is though, its well done and I'd like it more if I liked punk more.

I really didn't enjoy this. Not my thing at all, which doesnt help. But its so cheesy, devoid of anything solid and frankly its boring. No thanks.

Really, really wonderful album. Wild Horses, Brown Sugar, Sister Morphine all stand out for me but this is a consistently strong, wonderful album all the way through. Love it. 5/5.

Its ok. Its not horrible. Just a bit bland and twee. And I really hate their cover of Iron Man which cost them a point. Not my thing and if anything it irritated me. 2/5.

I've never really liked the Beatles. It isn't that I don't get it, it's more that their output is so diverse that I can easily find songs I like because I like bands clearly influenced by those songs, but as much as that there will be songs I just don't like. I really dislike them when they're whimsical because its just so dull and it happens so often. They so rarely feel like they have an edge. This album is like that. When I like it - Come Together, Oh Darling, I Want You - I really like it. But when I don't - Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Octopus's Garden, Mean Mr Mustard - it blows. And there's so much filler here. 7/10 rounded down to 3/5 because its overrated.

The biggest problem I have with Jane's Addiction is Perry Farrell's voice. It just grates on me a bit. It's no better listening to a whole album of it. Which is really frustrating here as otherwise this is brilliant. Even the more experimental stuff toward the end slaps. But the voice still annoys me. I'm giving this 4/5 because there's so much to like, and I can dream of it with a different singer.

I did enjoy this well enough, but in a sort of background sense which means I dont think I engaged that well. It was pretty good and I do like this sort of electronic music, I just prefer it to be a lot darker, so this didnt really grab me. I give it 3/5 but wish I could rate it higher with honesty.

I really liked this. It was fun and it went big. Unmistakably 80s with the massive synth sound, some great songs, Kate Bush. Some of the experimentation was a little confused but I liked this and will listen again, I think it will grow on me even more. 4/5 now with the potential to improve.

Now this, I really liked. Proper old school hip hop, utterly classic, not a moment wasted, and I want more. Bangers all the way down. 5/5.

What a wonderful, wonderful record. Loved it all the way through. Nothing wasted, lots of feel good chill out tunes and what a voice. Full marks.

Definitely enjoyed this more than I thought although it isnt my thing. Some good singles. A nice piece of very 80s pop.

Surprised myself here, I really enjoyed this. Some great song crafting, memorable tunes, really liked the vocals. Will listen to more of them. 4/5.

Never really liked Beck and this hasn't changed my mind.

Succeeds on its own terms and Frank has a great voice. But this is a personal rating and I don't like crooners or lounge music.

Enjoyed this. Reminded me of Orbital. Good chill out music.

Never even heard of this but I really enjoyed it. Hip hop with a smile on its face, made me think of summer.

Always loved this. I still dont think its as good as Original Pirate Material but its seriously good.

Like it but not sure how often i need to hear it.
