Day 1:
Listened to the whole thing while cooking chicken soup for my wife.
This is my first Jimi Hendrix experience! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very jazzy and more experimental than I expected, I'm curious to listen to another Jimi Hendrix album and see how this compares.
As an inexperienced music listener I felt that you could hear influences from artists before Hendrix and I can also hear how this would go onto influence other artists after Hendrix.
I think part of a 5 star experience for me is the ability to put it on in most moods and listen front to back. This album has two 15 minute long songs and while I appreciate their integrity, I think I'd end up skipping them on some listens
My favorite tracks were: Burning of the midnight Lamp (the intro is so good!) and House burning down
Would easily listen to this again, especially while cooking.
3 and a half stars!
Album 2 - ( Listened While hanging up washing)
Fun First Listen! - Would not listen all the way through again.
Gets a little samey. Think this would be great live energy
I really enjoy the bare bones blues rock nature of this. It really only clicked with me that The White Stripes are only a two piece band while listening to this album. I think its neat and impressive they are able to achieve a thick and high energy sound with only two people.
I thought the lyrics swung rapidly between "yeesh" and "bars!". Though I do like the rough vocal delivery
favourite tracks were: "The Union Forever" (gothic moody sound), "We're Going to be friends" (nice theme), "I think I smell a rat" (fun garage track)
Now this! This is something I have no idea how to rate!
I had to give this album my full attention because I don't understand how to appreciate jazz yet. But i think this album helped me get a little closer. It is a meticulously arranged piece and as a baby musician I can't even begin to understand how you would write, perform or jam on this piece, amazing.
Every element dances around each other with feverish intent making it sound quite chaotic at times, and yet Coltrane frequently directs the pieces back to some form of harmony.
My favorite track was "Part III - pursuance".
Musically this feels like a 5. But for me In my context, I feel like I can only give this this a three.
I look forward to listening to this again, probably the live set too.
Bring on more Jazz!
The Beach boys peeked the horrors. They are The Beach Men Now.
An album I listened to while applying for job interviews. Between the moody album cover and the darker tone I did have to double check this was infact the beach boys.
I really enjoyed this album, it was an easy listen with interesting use of effects and psychedelic tone. Despite the moodier tone it still had the bright and twee qualities of what I expect from the Beach boys.
Favourite tracks: "Don't Go Near the water" (fantastic opening track), "Disney Girls" (enjoy the escapist lyrical theme), "Student Demonstration time" (what can I say...perfect!)
would listen again!
album 5: An every man, making honest music for everyone.
I went into this thinking that I wouldn't relate to Cash's music or world. But he really is just that down to earth, that good of a story teller and that good of a performer. The fact that this is a live performance makes it even more moving.
An emotional journey, one that Cash somehow keeps light and engaging. A country album that never feels one note and explores its tool box thoroughly.
favorite tracks: "Darlin' Companion" (Great June Cash Feature) , "Starville city Jail", "A boy named Sue" (fantastic story telling), "San Quentin" (just listen)
Album 6:
Ya know, I don't think I needed to hear that before I died actually
It's a perfectly fine album. I don't think it was for me though. Having just listened to White Blood cells 4 days ago I was disappointed that I didn't gel with this album as well. I felt inspired, engaged and took something away from the last album. White Blood cells had an interesting tone and a solid identity that I missed here.
Even without reference to their last album, Get Behind Me Satan felt like a collection of half journeys. The selected sound font felt incomplete, the experimental ideas felt like an empty promise. and Jack's lyrical and vocal performance felt dishonest to me somehow. I did however enjoy Meg's vocal and drum performance here.
None of the tracks left a lasting impression and this is the first album that has me doubting the panels selection.
In the context of list I'm giving it a 1/5, but in general i'd rate it a 2/5
Really enjoyed but also ended up zoning it out a little. But I think that’s a good sign rather than a bad thing
Really fun album to have on ambiently
Love the tone and sound! Wouldn’t regularly listen as it’s not quite new wave enough or not quite Beatles enough
Favourite tracks: “male model” and “I gotta getta”
I liked this. Especially the second half. Didn’t over stay it’s welcome. Witchy and gothic, very interesting
Janis Joplin is one of those names that I heard spoken a lot. I hadn’t heard any of her music until this, so to me it really was just “one of those names” that people say a lot. Pearl made me understand why she is “one of those names”. A unique and powerful voice. Liked this whole album except Mercedes Benz
I thought the song structures were really interesting, lyrics were great and the production was fantastic. there is just so many good things that could be said about this…5!!!
