So far? Not really a fan.
Nothing about it is capturing. There is a lot going on at a lot of points without great resolve.
The vibe I'm getting? As Peter Griffin would say, it "insists upon itself" & I feel like the fan would be insufferable.
I don't deny the talent of musicianship or composition, I just don't think this for me. I have a lot of tracks left, so we will see.
Yeah, I don't know. Even the lyrics? Garbage. Maybe the hipsters would be correct that, I don't get it.
I'm sorry I can't finish it.
I didn't listen to this album as part of this, but I've listened to it already a few times. This is a classic album, & you can't necessarily go wrong with the King of Pop. I will take some time to really listen as part of this process though, because it's been some time. I've been listening to thriller and off the wall more.
Was okay. I was able to listen all the way through & didn't dislike it immediately. I'm a fan of The Cure so this is in the same realm. It felt a little drawn out & by the end all kind of sounded the same. So while not bad, wasn't anything special in my opinion.
Never heard of this album, but I'm always down for a good hiphop album. I'm wondering because it's just DJ Shadow if it'll be mostly instrumental. Nowadays, you'll see a DJ put out a single, but has several major rappers on the track doing a verse.
Real drums??
If only I could rap, this is a great album to do so on.
Definitely feels like something a "snob" would listen to.
Don't get me wrong, it's great so far. I love an instrumental, especially hiphop fusion. It does give off "white, NPR listener".
I've had NPR on my radio plenty, so that can be self inflicted.
So far "Organ Donor" is the coolest track. Really stands out. Speaks to my inner goth.
Well don't mind if I do! I love this band.
This is one of those bands that needs to be background noise for me to fully begin to immerse myself as a fan. I've tried several times in the past to like them, but actively listening was kind of boring?
I've put on the essentials playlist on repeat now a bunch and slowly been picking up a song here and there that I like. Methodically become a fan over time.
As I continue to listen to these guys, I enjoy it more. This album is great. A great alternative to the typical 80s music (which I love, don't get me wrong), but still captures the time.
I hope I would've been a fan if I was a teen in the 80s. Maybe Lisa Frankenstein would have a crush on me...
Been watching a lot of Hendrix live videos after Nashville (visited a blues bar, back on my blues B.S.). Dude is the goat, but we've always known that. Though, other than songs coming on shuffle, I'm not sure what I know on this album other than Voodoo Chile.
I just listened to Are You Experienced & thought to myself, I might prefer him live, which is rare for me but he's a great improve guitarist that shines a lot in those moments. I'm hoping this album has some better guitar work. That being said, he's still the goat.
Percussion & bass don't get the credit they deserve. It's like a jazz background layered with blues over it, makes for a great combo.
Voodoo Chile is problem his best song. I'll hear no arguments.
So far, I'm definitely still thinking I like Jimi better live.
Album was good, but long. I really just think I'm a fan of the JHE as a live band more than their studio albums. Probably why I like Voodoo Chile the most.
I recognize the album cover, but don't know if I've heard anything from Liz. Let's see; I'm usually skeptical about albums I'm unaware of. They never live up to the hype... maybe it's me.
First song, it's very much on par with that grunge/hippy fusion of the 90s.
I'm not enjoying this album.
My introduction to Iggy Pop is his feature on Slash's 2010 solo album. Love that song & what Iggy brought to it. Though, I've never listened to his music, I've always respected the goat. Surprisingly, I haven't heard anything that I recognize.
This so far is a decent album. Just punk enough to be fun, just spacey enough to make my brain settle down.
Did Iggy Pop unintentionally create goth?
To be honest, I'm going into this biased. I'm not a fan of the few songs I do know. Not that they're bad, it's just too weird for me I think. Reading the description in Apple Music, & I think it helps paint a picture why I'm not really a fan. It's "funny." I really can't stand funny music.
Musically, it's fun. I find myself tapping my foot. I'm just ignoring the singing subconsciously.
I love VH I&II, but to be honest, I'm not sure I listened to this entire album outside of it's singles.
I won't say I'm a huge fan of DLR, but I definitely prefer this version of the band to Van Haggar. That being said, no matter who is singing, EVH does no wrong on the guitar. I strive to sound this effortless on the guitar.
House of Pain guitar riff is KILLER. I'm learning that today.
Solid album. Still prefer what they did in the first two albums, but this still great. Didn't feel like EVH was a focal point, which is the only reason I really like VH.
Never heard of this album or band. Sounds like a 90s band, so I'm shocked to see this came out in 1969. The band that anointed prog rock.
Some parts are cool. Some just feel like experimental because they took too much LSD and stretched a 4 minute song into 10.
I guess I should've been there in the 60s.
I love The Doors. I've been listening to them for about 15 years now. I'm excited to listen to this album again.
This whole album seems to make me feel like I'm in 1971, but missing the corniness that other albums seem to have. It aged VERY well.
L'America is just spooky & fantastic, pure energy when it kicks in. Always been one of my favorite hidden gems on this album.
Riders On the Storm has to be the perfect "final" song for Jim Morrison. Sets the tone of his death in my opinion; Jim entering the pearly gates via a storm.
