The first track was both relaxing—since there were no words or lyrics—and unsettling because of its atmosphere of loneliness and alienation. The rest of the album felt very calming yet exciting, like stepping into a new, strange world
I don't know... usually, hip-hop with jazz elements isn't something that would ever bother me... but this album feels like you're sitting in a nice café where there's live music, but the band doesn't care that they're playing way too loud because they're so absorbed in their lyrics and rhythms. The female vocals are the best part.
When I listened to it, I wondered what I was feeling... because understood rationally that this music is emotional or sounds emotional. But I didn't feel anything, and I'm indifferent to the whole album. Even though it has everything I usually love to lose myself in... nothing grabs me or moves me
I really enjoyed listening because of the beats and the vibe. Until I paid closer attention to the lyrics of “the seed 2.0” and felt really uncomfortable. This kind of spirit takes away some of the enjoyment for the album. Otherweise I loved how the band switches between different genres, and it always feels natural... really impressive.
Can't explain why, but there's just something about the early genesis albums that sounds creepy to me... They were the first band I loved and listened to when I was 12 years old, and I've always wanted to connect with their early days. Back then, I thought maybe I needed to be “more grown-up” to appreciate the early albums, but to my disappointment, nothing has changed now that I’m 42. I’ll be patient and just give it another try in 30 years.
I'd actually never heard of minutemen before, but I fell in love with them right away. My goodness, this album is great!
Depeche mode was one of the first bands I felt a deep connection to with lyrics, held so much meaning for me as I was growing up. This album is amazing, and to be honest, today I find it astonishing how popular they were back then, considering how consistently dark and serious the mood of most of the songs is... I haven’t listened to it in a long time, but it remains an absolute classic. Looking back, martin gore’s lyrics always resonated with me because, at a time when the role of men wasn’t particularly diverse, they described men and masculinity in a context different from the typical, classic male role of the time (men who feel no pain, are dominant etc.). Definitely meant a lot of hope and comfort to my younger self. Favorites of this album are “behind the wheel,” “to have and to hold,” and of course “pimpf” with its great music video!
Thanks to this project, this was the first morrissey album I've ever (consciously) listened to...not bad at all. Although i liked the music even more than the vocals and lyrics
A pleasant surprise among the morrissey, bob dylan, and old genesis albums we've been listening to in this project over the last few days. Still, I just can't seem to get really into it... I love kelela's voice and the her vibe, but the music doesn't sound harmonious or dissonant enough for me to really enjoy it. It's somewhere between catchy and unwieldy, and I just can't seem to connect with it.
I don't think I understand this kind of music... it all sounds the same to me. I feel a little bad because it was really fascinating to research her and her life.
Wow, just amazing. I'd never heard of this artist before, but that was exactly the point of taking Part in this project—to discover artists and music I wasn't familiar with. A total five-star album. I love espacially that incredible voice and the depth of the lyrics.
